-- My Mountains...

This page is devoted exclusively for the splendid mountains of Kazakhstan. Having being born and raised in the city surrounded by snow-peaked mountains, naturally, I acquired this fascination with these magnificent giants. With time this fascination grew into wild attraction and passion. Indeed, there is something magnetically appealling hidden within these nature's creations that keeps attracting humans. Ever since the pre-historic times, mankind attempted to climb these summits - perhaps, the ancient people attempted to be as close to their totem gods as possible and mountain tops offered a rare opportunity for solititude and soul cleansing. Or, it might've been for totally different reasons...

Nevertheless, while being away throghout the years, I always miss the chance to go hiking thru the mountains or simply look around and inevitably catch a glimpse of imposing but very familiar snow-capped peaks. With time, they turned into my friends who can offer joy, happiness or solace but at the same time still demand due respect - otherwise, the mount fury had killed many explorers. By the same token, while roaming the world, I had a chance to discover that different mountains have different and easily recognisable tempers and styles - just like humans.

Unfortunately, the place where I currently live, Oklahoma-USA, is as flat as a pancake, making it impossible to go hiking in the mountains. That is why I eagerly look forward to vising my home and my good old "friends" - the Tian Shan mountains...
For now though, just enjoy the splendid views I took myself during my treks.

  • This is the Zailisky Alatau ridge - "up close and personal" :))) You can see several glaciers half-melted during the summer heat.

  • Ordzhonikidze Peak - the toughest peak to climb around Almaty, has taken a heavy toll on alpinists.

  • Conquering the summit presents a great feast for climber's eyes - Watch for yourself!

  • Kemin River Valley - after lifeless whiteness of glaciers and hostile monotony of rocks, descending to river valley foothills is entirely refreshing.

  • Khan Tengri ("The Lord of Spirits"> Peak - this is the highest and most gorgeous peak in Kazakhstan (7,010m) No, I haven't made it to its top yet.
