What is an urban legend? An urban legend is a story that has been passed on for so long that people believe it to be true at one time or another. Urban legends are also gory and terrible in nature and many times do not have happy endings. When one hears of these "urban legends" either they think it is nonsense or have a small sense of worry and fear because they believe the legends are true.  I will be choosing my stories from a website called Snopes.com, which has a massive collection of urban legend stories in any category you can think of like sporting, horror, holidays and even September 11th. And on top of that there is information about each story's origins and alternate versions of the same story so you can see where it comes from and how it has evolved.

The subject matter I am trying to focus on is stories of gruesome nature.  Now you may have heard of some of these scary urban legends, such as The Hook, bloody Mary, and Amityville Horror. All of these stories are perceived to be common legends that you may have heard about. Urban legends are passed around through chain emails and cell phone texts. Urban legends are also seen in movie theaters and in television shows. And last but not least word of mouth has been the best transporter of urban legends, what better place to learn about urban legends than by a campfire. So now you might ask, how do I determine which stories I want to use out of the hundreds to pick from? Well, I am looking for unique stories so that when you read these there will be an element of surprise because you do not know the ending already! The stories I am going to use are different types of killers. Some who know what they are doing and others who are more or less running on auto pilot.

Now let me introduce you to our star and storyteller. He is a television show host and his name is Victor Toothspark. Now Victor is a devious storyteller of the gory and grim. His favorite stories are urban legends. This takes place in the 1950's, where black and white television is king. Victor's main goal is to tell urban legends to the children each afternoon and leave them in utter fear because they are unsure if it is just a story. Now dear Victor tells tales of questionable nature, many parents do not care for his storytelling. They have been pushing for him to stay off television for some time and his days may be numbered. He is going to tell some urban legends that have taken place in his very town. Victor’s sources are the local newspaper and police reports, so he is not making this stuff up, is he? His first tale of terror is called 'The Clown Statue."  A young babysitter finds a strange statue but, what will happen to her?  After that if you are still here, you will hear the tale "The Helpful Stranger."
