Greek Gods and Goddesses:  Tales of the Deified Mortals

Zeus carrying Ganymede

Introduction

Hey all and welcome to Zeus' Hidden Lair, the most popular hangout for the Greek gods!  My name is Ganymede and I am the bartender here, as well as being the cupbearer to Zeus himself.  I don't like to brag, but Zeus picked me out himself because of my astonishing beauty (I WAS the most handsome of all mortals, after all) to be the cupbearer to the gods.  I'm also known as the god of homosexual love, but hey, I don't like to talk about my love life.  Anyway, this is just a little job on the side, for sheer enjoyment, really.  I mean, who wouldn't want to hear the trials and tribulations of the gods from their own mouths?  But really, enough about me...

I honestly get all kinds of characters in here, partly because I own the only pub in the Greek heavens, but I also like to think it's just that cool, as well.  One of the most frequent visitors is Psyche; she and Aphrodite, her mother-in-law, do their best to avoid each other, needless to say.  Of course, Psyche is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen, but everyone has their problems.  I should know because I have the great pleasure of hearing those problems on a nightly basis.  As I'm sure you'll notice when you read Psyche's story, I think she's growing a little bit tired of being the "belle of the ball," if you'll pardon the expression.  I don't think her marriage to Eros is so hot these days, and boy is she turning into a real hot mess!

Another quite frequent visitor is Heracles, the son of Zeus himself.  His visits wear me out because he refuses to see a therapist for his problems; instead he prefers to get sloshed in the pub and to spill them all out to yours truly.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good bit of drama and gossip just as much as the next guy, but there's only so much I can take.  Ol' Herc just gets his feelings hurt and takes everything to heart.  I guess it's hard to accept when your stepmom wages war on you just because of her unfaithful husband, but she's apologized.

The Dioscuri often come in as well.  Individually, they're the twins Castor and Pollux, sons of Queen Leda and two different fathers, her husband, Tyndareus, and her lover on the side, Zeus.  (As you can tell, Zeus likes to get around, if you know what I mean..)  The Dioscuri are pretty pleasant most of the time, but I can only imagine how confusing it is to be considered twins, especially when one of you is a god and the other one is a mortal, but nobody can tell you apart.  The drama really gets started when they bring their sister Helen of Troy along for the fun, usually resulting in a bar room brawl that I, of course, am responsible for resolving.

Finally, I just had to save my favorite story for last, which is about myself, of course!  This one by far is the most interesting (hey, I may be biased...) and you will learn how the ever so raunchy Zeus fell in love with me and brought me to the heavens and how I got stuck running Zeus' Hidden Lair!   I just know you'll like this story best!
