Cheshire Cat with big grin

INTRODUCTION

Lewis Carroll is most famous for his works Alice in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There (1871).  He drew much of the inspiration for the characters in his stories from the people he was acquainted with in real life.  Alice, in fact, is said to be inspired by his good friend's daughter.

The narrator of the stories in my Storybook is the extremely wily, disappearing trickster, the Cheshire Cat.  Now, in my Storybook, he has his own television show and will be taking us on a ride, showing us the many oddities and quirky people Alice met on her adventures through Wonderland.  He is still up to his disappearing acts, but the producers have gotten an influx of complaints about how confusing and disturbing it is to see a cat's head without its body, so they've put their feet down and made him promise to hold the disappearing until the end of the show.

I'm sure many of you are not familiar with the Cheshire Cat.  He is a whimsically eccentric character whom Alice meets during her misadventures in Wonderland.  She first meets him (in her attempt to navigate her way home) at the duchess's house in her kitchen and notices his oddly huge grin.  (Little did Alice know, the Cheshire Cat was with her all along on her adventures; he was simply invisible so she didn't notice!  Good thing for us, because we get to hear these fabulous stories!)  Alice's next encounter with the Cheshire Cat was, to her knowledge, was by a large tree a little ways outside of the Duchess's house.  When Alice asks the Cheshire Cat which way she should go, he riddles and teases her, saying that if she doesn't have an actual destination in mind, it doesn't really matter which way she goes at all!  Alice, already frustrated by the strange people she's met thus far in Wonderland, becomes even more angry and confused when the Cheshire Cat disappears on the spot!  You see, the Cheshire Cat can be quite frustrating when he is feeling playful because he loves to play his little mind games!  When Alice meets the Cheshire Cat again while playing croquet with the Queen, she seems rather pleased because he is her only "friend" around.  This time, however, only his head appears.  This REALLY angers the Queen and King, who sentence him to a beheading, the only problem being that the cat had no body to behead!

Be prepared for the utter MADNESS you will wee in Wonderland!  If a disappearing cat isn't enough for you, just wait and see...

Hello, boys and girls.  I am your host, the Cheshire Cat.  I am here to tell you the rather intriguing tale of Alice and her many adventures in Wonderland.  Please keep in mind, we are allll mad here in Wonderland.  Alice's story starts off in a less than Wonderful manner.  She was sitting on the bank of a river with her sister, bored out of her tiny mind with the book her sister was reading.  When she looked up, the White Rabbit was speeding by her exclaiming "I'm late, I'm late!" while looking at his oversized pocket watch.  This caught her attention, so she hurried off after him, just in time to catch him jumping down his rabbit hole, which was coincadentally just her size!  Dear dear, I'm getting ahead of myself.  You will just have to read on to see what Alice encounters in the Rabbit hole!

The next chapter of Alice's little tale is her pool of tears.  My my, that little girl CAN cry.  I guess I would, too, if I became a giant and could find no one to help me.  Of course, I would need no help because I am self-sufficient and can make my self disappear and reappear, but that is beside the point.  Being a giant for a small frame of time, her tears were ENORMOUS!  You can only imagine her fright when she shrank back to her two-foot-tall self, forced to swim in a pool of her own tears.  Here I go again.  Please, be patient and wait for the right time.  I'm sure you'll be quite please when you hear Alice's many adventures and misadventures.

In the third section of our adventures with Alice, we meet the Caterpillar.  Beware, he is quite the smoker, so if you don't like smoke I advise you to watch from a distance.  He is one of the maddest characters in Wonderland, might I add!  He is very easily offended, so when Alice didn't know how to answer his questions, he found her to be extremely rude!  This is a great episode to watch!

Last but not least, we will have the pleasure of meeting with the extremely MAD Hatter!  He is quite possibly the MADDEST character in Wonderland (obviously infinitesimally more mad than I am, hahaha).  Brace yourselves for this one, because the Mad Hatter can be quite the confusing character and I often am forced to translate his stories so that others can understand!  You will love his company, though!  Be sure to tune in!!
