king arthur:  legend of royalty

introduction

innocent arthur

As long as I can remember I have always enjoyed hearing about the Arthurian Legend. This Storybook was my chance to finally be able to indulge myself into stories about King Arthur and his Royal Court. I have chosen to write about King Arthur's life, from his childhood days as the boy-King to his final battle and death.

I chose to write about this topic because ever since I was a little my father and I would watch the cartoon Camelot early in the mornings. I did not understand what was going on in the cartoon because I was young and did not know the background. My father tried to fill me in on details and storylines he thought I should know. Shortly after I stopped watching Camelot, I became that little girl who obsessed over that one movie, The Sword in the Stone by Walt Disney. I never had a chance to take any classes over the Arthurian Legend, but I saw movies like First Knight and King Arthur. These movies filled me in on what had happened to King Arthur and his Royal Court.

It is a shame that I did not get to read or research stories about King Arthur until now. I absolutely loved the movies, but I have heard that the readings are usually much better than what the movies can portray. I must admit I do not know much about King Arthur's life, but from what I do know I have developed a passion for his stories and for the stories of other characters who played a part in his life. These characters I speak of such as Merlin, Guenevere and Sir Lancelot are key figures who helped mold Arthur into the noble King that he was.

I think my topic of King Arthur is a great fit to this course. King Arthur's story to me is both Myth and Folklore. The setting may be a fictional place but the emotions that are shown throughout Arthur's story are believable. I can honestly say that I hope my Storybook leads you to continue to read about the other stories about King Arthur's life than the ones I retell.

The first three stories that I wrote are from the first person perspective of Merlin the Magician. I wanted to tell the life of Arthur from a young boy to a noble and honorable King through Merlin because he was very close to Arthur and was his mentor. Throughout the stories that I have read these two had a very close bond of friendship and a father-son type bond. By retelling through the voice of Merlin I am able to show how Merlin felt about all that was happening to Arthur, also how Arthur felt and was handling the task that came upon his life. In my first story, Arthur is a young boy who pulled the sword from the stone and became the boy-King. My second story, Arthur and Merlin are introduced to the sword, Excalibur. In the third story, Arthur's Knights turn against his Queen Geunevere when a foul situation fell upon King Arthur and his Queen. In my final story, you will see the battle that brought King Arthur to his death.

I hope that you enjoy King Arthur's life being told by his mentor, Merlin. Hopefully my Storybook will inspire you to continue reading the legend of King Arthur. If you would like more stories about Arthur's adventures and life please visit
