The One with the Airplane

"Ross, I really don't know how
much more I can take of this. I thought you were on my side," says
Rachel.
"Oh, come on, you listened to everyone else's story," says Ross. "Mine
is actually true."
"
Okay, fine. I just need
a cup of tea first."
"I'll get it for you, sweetie," says Monica, as she gets up and heads
to the kitchen.
"Oh, thanks, Mon. Go ahead, Ross. Tell me your story," says Rachel.
"I saw this on 60 Minutes,"
says Ross.
"Oh, so then it must be true," says Chandler.
"Can I please just tell the story?" asks Ross.
"Yes, go ahead," says Phoebe.
"Hey, Mon, make me sandwich while you're in there," yells Joey to
Monica.
"So, I was watching 60 Minutes the
other
day,"
begins
Ross,
"and
there
was this woman from Los Angeles who
was traveling to Phoenix with her husband to visit family. She was
about seven months pregnant, and since it is only a two-hour flight,
they thought it would be safe for her to fly."
"What? That's not fair. I didn't get to go to Ross' wedding because I
was too pregnant with my brother's babies," says Phoebe.
"Well, honey, you were eight months pregnant with triplets and the
wedding was in London," says Rachel.
"Don't worry, Phoebs," says Joey. "You really didn't miss much... well,
except for Ross saying the wrong name at the altar."
"Yeah, just wait a few months and you'll get to go to another one of
Ross' weddings," says Chandler.
"Okay, everyone. Let's leave my brother alone," says Monica, as she
hands Rachel her tea and Joey his sandwich. "Go on, Ross."
"Thanks, Mon. Anyway," continues Ross, "the woman was halfway through
the flight when she started getting contractions."
"Oh, no! Ross, what if I get contractions halfway through my flight?"
asks a panicked Rachel.
"Don't worry, Rachel. That's not going to happen to you. Besides, you
aren't going anywhere on a plane."
"Oh, yeah," says Rachel.
"So what happened?" asks Phoebe.
"Luckily, there was a doctor on board who was able to deliver the baby.
Even though the baby was two months early, it was fully developed with
no problems," says Ross. "The baby was a girl, and the parents named
her Delta after the airline. The airline was so touched that they gave
Delta free airfare for life. See, Rachel, everything turned out okay."
"Yeah, Rach, giving birth on a plane may not be so bad," says
Phoebe.
"Ha ha, Phoebs," says Rachel. "I know. I just get overwhelmed and freak
out sometimes. It's my first baby and I am really scared."
"We know you are, Sweetie," says Monica, "but you aren't alone."
"Yeah, we're all here for you," says Chandler.
"I know," says Rachel. "Thanks, you guys. You all are the best."
"Yes, yes. We love Rachel and are here for her," says Joey. "Now, let's
get something to eat. I'm hungry."
"Do you all want to go to Central Perk?" asks Phoebe.
"Of course," everyone says in perfect unison.
Monica, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, Ross and Rachel get up and go to their
favorite hangout place. They were the very best of friends and knew
that as long as they had each other, they could handle anything life
threw their way.
Author's Note: With this
story, I basically made up the whole thing. I took the legend of a baby
being born on a plane and getting free airfare for life from the same
Snopes website where I got all the legends for my other stories, but
then I
added in all the details. I made up the characters and the
destination. Even though the Snopes website states that this story is
false, I thought it was something that could really happen. I added in
the doctor and made the trip short so that it would be more realistic.
I also made up the part about the parents naming their child after the
airline. Like with
all my other stories, it was very important to me that all the Friends
characters be involved in the story as much as possible, even though it
is mainly about Rachel. Again, I wanted the personalities of
the actual characters from the show to reflect in their
speech. I also tried to include some details from the real Friends,
such
as Phoebe having her brother's babies and having to miss Ross' wedding
in London. This added more detail and dialogue to the story as well as
gave the reader more information about the characters. I have really
enjoyed this subject for my storybook and I hope my classmates have
enjoyed reading my stories.
