Welcome to
Neverland!
Look at the horizon! Welcome to the beautiful Neverland...the place
we've all dreamed of ! It's true! Neverland is a figment of a child's
dream. In just a moment we will make our way to a favorite
tourist spot- the beautiful Mermaid Lagoon. It has the most
breathtaking views in all of Neverland and it's a real romance spot-
just ask Wendy! See the sandy beaches and luscious tropical plants all
around? There are some mermaids now! And Peter Pan and Wendy are
resting on a rock. What a glorious day in Neverland!
Hello, Peter! Hello, Wendy! I would like you to meet some friends
of
mine. These are my friends that have come to tour
Neverland. They fly nicely and are looking forward to a grand
adventure!
Wendy: "Hello everyone, it's lovely to see you in Neverland. I
must
admit that being here will make you forget all your troubles and you'll
never want to leave! Happened to me once, until I suddenly remembered
my wonderful mother.
"It all started when I was telling stories to the Lost Boys, who had
taken me as their mother. See, the Lost Boys are lost because
they fell out of their prams as babies and were brought to Neverland,
forgetting their mothers and fathers. I was sad for them at
first. I have such a wonderful mother and just couldn't imagine
not being able to remember her.
"Peter had just saved Tiger Lily from the dreaded Captain Hook and his
pirates. The Chief owed him for saving his daughter; so he and the
rest of the
Picinannies stood guard above our hideout, in case Hook came back for
revenge. After telling the boys a bedtime story, my
brothers John and Michael were going on and on about me being a
mother. I remembered how sweet and charming our mother was and
how much I loved her. I was sorely ashamed we had forgotten her!
I
told Peter I
wanted to go home to our mother and, well, he wasn't happy about
it. The Lost Boys were all sad at the thought of us leaving, so I
asked them to come along, knowing my sweet parents would graciously
take them in."
Peter Pan: "I'll take it from here, Wendy. I was so angry that
anyone would
ever want to leave Neverland, that I told them all to go and was
determined to stay behind while they left. We heard some fighting
above and realized that the pirates had come for their revenge! We knew
that we'd know the outcome by the sound of the drum. If the
Picannanies won, they would beat the drum in victory. If they
lost,
we
would hear nothing. After some time, the drum sounded so we
thought it safe to go out. When Wendy, Michael, John, and the
Lost Boys went to get out of the hideout, they were snatched by the
pirates. The scoundrels! They knew the customs of the natives! To
lure us out of the hole, they beat the drum themselves!
Wendy: "Peter, being too stubborn, stayed behind, not knowing we had
been
snatched. We were taken to the ship and tied up. Hook,
noticing Peter hadn't come out of the hole, assumed he was waiting for
him! So Hook went down the hole, only to find Peter fast asleep.
He placed poison in the open medicine container above the mantle
and slipped back out of the hole and returned to the ship. See,
I told Peter to take
his medicine before I left but he wouldn't listen! He really is a
stubborn boy! Had he taken his medicine like I had told him to, he
wouldn't have been in so much trouble!"
Peter: "Oh Wendy, do let me tell MY story! My fairy, Tinkerbell, flew
to my rescue! She intervened when I was about
to take
my medicine by getting between me and the bottle and took the poison
herself. As she lay dying, I heard claps from all over and her
life was miraculously spared! She told me of the fate of my friends and
I immediately sought after them. Along the way I came across the
tick-tocking crocodile and starting imitating his sound. I can
imitate anything! I did this for so long that I forgot I was
doing it.
I swam to the ship, still sounding like the crocodile. Hook's
only fear was that crocodile. Afterall, it had only had a taste
and
followed Hook around, wanting to finish him off! Hook was so scared
that
I
had to laugh to myself."

Wendy: "Oh Peter was wonderful! You should have seen him and how
he
fought
Hook!
It was such a great show!"
Peter: "I was rather wonderful wasn't I? Anyway, so there I was..."
Oh my goodness! The cyclone is going to hit in precisely two minutes so
we MUST be on our way! Thank you, Peter and Wendy, for your very
entertaining story, but we really must go! Come on everyone! Think of
your happy thought, we must fly to the open field.
There it is and you can see the funnel cloud now! It's going to get
very windy! Here it comes! Stay in the middle to be sure you are not
thrown out along the way...pity that would be. You'll have to fly
back
alone and will never get to Oz! Here we go!
See the beautiful land of Oz beneath
us? There is where Dorothy landed on the Wicked Witch of the East, the
blue land of the Munchkins. Oh and there's the beginning of the
yellow brick road!
Author's Note: James Barrie's Peter
Pan is written in third person and since I am doing a cruise type
story,
I
wanted you to meet the characters of Peter Pan and Wendy. Peter
is a little flighty and narcissistic at times. He is also a great
story teller and considers everything a game- just like a boy who
doesn't want to grow up! Wendy is very fond of Peter and during the
book, she seems to actually have some type of crush on Peter Pan.
Peter, not knowing how to explain his feelings for Wendy, nor wishing
to have any type of grown-up feelings at all, just becomes
attached and tries to get her to stay with him in Neverland
forever. This is why he is so upset when she wants to
leave. Peter Pan is also a very stubborn character. An
interesting fact about Peter Pan- JM Barrie wrote several works but his
best and most famous was Peter Pan, his ONLY children's piece.
The original work was a play published in 1904. He turned the
very successful play into a novel in 1911.
