For my storybook project I have decided to base it on greek mythology and specifically the greek hero. I have always been interested in greek mythology ever since I can remember. Even as a little kid I found myself fascinated by the tales of the gods and goddesses, heroes, monsters and myths. These stories have fascinated people for 1,000's of years and still continue to do so today. My goal is to try and put forth the stories that I feel offer not only the most entertainment value but also offer a view into the true art that is greek mythology. Greek mythology has something for everyone. It has action, adventure, suspense, comedy and even romance. Through Greek mythology, the ancient people formed a religion; one in which, they devised a basic theology and a foundation for their day to day living. It is simply fascinating to think that the people of this time truly did make sacrifices to appease their gods just as the heroes did in the stories of Homer. My main goal will be to represent some of the major heroes of Greek mythology such as Hercules, Jason, Hektor, Achilles, Odysseus and Perseus, etc. Specifically I want to try to show why these heroes are truly heroes and that the values that were held in high regard to the Greeks are still valuable to us today.
I feel that if I can try and relate
all of these things to you, you will certainly have a great appreciation
for Greek mythology as well as the true art that it is. After all there's
got to be a reason why these stories are still around today, right?
