Postman Response
Main Ideas
This article is about invisible
technologies. It mentions how language
is
considered a form of this technology. It also mentions how zero is this.
It discussed how some things can seem innocent and unbiased, but in reality,
they reflect the popular beliefs and views of the culture.
Gut Reaction
This was an interesting article. I
liked how it pointed out that by asking
a question in two different ways, one can receive two opposite answers. I
also liked the story about the Lithuanian village. I can see this being
done in schools in the form of the PASS skills. It seems to me that the
children are getting the short end of the stick in that the teachers a lot
of the time have to teach to the test (the villagers taking the easy way out
of placing a stake in the coffin), instead of receiving a varied education
(the expensive method of providing food and an air hole in the coffin).
Questions
1. The article mentioned test and grading and how it can be biased. What
are your views?
2. How does this article related
to teaching? (I may be totally off about
the PASS skills comment I made)
