Mr. Shubert taught me the joy of natural light photography in high school. Mark had gotten ahead of most of the group, and there were at most five people in the room with us, so we waited and asked questions, and I took this picture. The flash would have killed everyone anyway, and I just love this, because in a way, this is exactly what I saw. That's Mark in the white shirt. The holes in the walls are pigeonholes, literally. They would put homing pigeons in the caves, seal the caves for a couple of weeks, then take the pigeons wherever they went, releasing the pigeons with messages to be carried back home. Carved by hand, over 2,000 years ago.
