This cave was total blackness when we passed, and I wanted to know what it looked like, so I flashed a picture, and you get the benefit of my curiosity. They used bronze picks to hew out the caves, and you can see the marks in rows on the ceiling. Everything is chalk, and they dug out the caves to use the rocks to build their houses. Then the caves went into use, as aviaries, storage and such. The temperature is constant, so they stored water down there, it must have been wonderful to get 68 degree water after a hard day of farming. Then the Maccabbees came along and forced the people to move, and threw the rocks back in the caves. Then dirt blew in. Why am I telling you all this?
