And here it is! The Kotel. The Kotel is actually the western retaining wall of a huge structure that was the center of Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Built by Herod in part as a symbol of his own greatness, the structure is immense. What you see of this wall is actually the top third, and doesn't begin to cover the length. The Second Temple was located off to the left under the Dome of the Rock, and to the right was an administration building. This is a picture from a balcony of Kotel Plaza, you can see the wall itself is dirty at the bottom six feet, and there is a divider between the left and right side for men and women.
