There's a bit of back story to this picture. This is the Ayalon Institute. At the time of the war for independence, the leaders asked a boatload of people if they would participate in a secret operation that would mean certain death should they be found out but would be critical to the state. Without knowing anything else, they agreed, and they began construction of a new Kibbutz, normal in all aspects but one: there was a munitions factory buried between two buildings. There was a need for bullets for the Sten gun, but the British had an arms embargo in place, to no weapons or munitions could be imported, so this was their solution. This underground room where they produced the bullets lay between the laundry room and the bakery to hide the noise the machines produced. There is a huge oven in the bakery that takes ten hours to move to uncover the hole they used to put in the machinery. In the laundry, the washing machine is on hydraulics, and moves aside quickly to reveal a very steep vertical ladder. All of the workers entered in 45 seconds, and took 1:30 to leave. You can actually see the ladder, just to the right of the male cutout. This is a view of the row of machines, a motor turned a spindle on the wall and belts ran from that spindle to the various machines.
