Hi, my name is Blake Goodman. I was
born and raised in Oklahoma,
and I have lived in Little Axe all of my life. I am a member of the Absentee
Shawnee Tribe and very proud of that. I have participated in my cultural
activities for as long as I can remember. I love my tribe and have always been
interested in finding a way to give back to them for all that they have done
for me. I will graduate from the University
of Oklahoma in May of
2009 with a Bachelors degree in Social Studies education. I have wanted to
teach since about the 8th grade. I love kids and have always wanted
to do something where I could help them out. I think people are strong
influences on kids and children are our future. We need people that care and
have a passion to help the youth of our nation.
I have always had a strong interest
in history. I think my background has really been a major influence on my
passion for history. I have always wanted to know who I was and the truth
behind my people. I also really enjoy the civil war because of the influence it
has had shaping our country. It also was a major factor in the racial make up
of our society and what was to come for people of minorities. It also was a
prelude to the Indian wars that would take place following the civil war. It
was the beginning of the end for my people’s way of life. I also enjoy World
War II and Vietnam.
I like racial issues because they are so touchy, and I think people are afraid
to learn about them. We still have people today that are very stereotypical of
other races because they have never learned about other people appropriately.
This type of stuff blows my mind and makes me very passionate about history.
History can teach us about people and how all of us are alike in so many ways.
I have many different hobbies. The
most important hobby that I have is basketball. I love sports in general, but
basketball is my favorite. I also love spending time with my family. My family
is the most important thing in my life. They have always been there through
thick and thin and I love them very much.
