Problems with debt in college. Many students have never had to manage their money on their own before they go off to college. This often can cause problems with the students falling into debt early in their college careers. The first problem that students have with debt is student loans. The majority of college students have to take out loans in order to be able to attend a university. So with these loans many students fall into debt that is unavoidable. Then comes the real debt problem that students face. Credit cards are usually a horrible thing to most college students. Many students who have these cards fall into debt because they overspend and have poor money management skills. So it seems that universities would make attempts to keep credit solicitors off their campuses in order to protect the students from being caught up in debt. However it is the opposite at many universities such as the University of Oklahoma. Many universities like OU actually endorse credit card companies. For their endorsement of these companies they are paid. So it seems that the university makes money off of putting its students in debt, first with the loans then with the credit cards. Now this just doesn’t seem right, and it isn’t. universities should discourage credit vendors not encourage them with free give a way’s on campus. Ultimately it is the students decision to get a card or not. And if the student does get a card it is his or her responsibility to use it responsibly. Refrences: Lucas, Philip.
