As they entered my quaint little three-bedroom house, I hugged them all
and greeted them with an excited smile.
"I am starving and your chicken
enchiladas smell SO good!" Ashley exclaimed as she walked through the
door.
"Come on in, girls!" I could
barely keep my excitement contained. I swear my voice almost
cracked.
As the girls sat down around my brand
new, ultra modern dining room table that I had set with my best dishes
and place settings, I grabbed the chicken enchilada platter and set it
on the table. I had already put the chips, salsa, and Mexican
fiesta salad on the table. I served my guests and then sat down
to serve myself.
"Whoa, this is delicious, Sadie.
Did you really make these from scratch or did you have your mom make
them and you just heated them up in the over?" Cheyenne said jokingly.
"Ha ha very funny. Of course I
made them ALL BY MYSELF, but it is my Granny's recipe." I paused
for a minute, debating on when would be the perfect time to tell them
my super exciting news. "Okay guys, I can't hold it in
anymore. I have something to tell you!" I exclaimed not even
trying to hide my smile any longer.
"I told you guys she had a hidden
agenda for having Girls Night. She was so eager I just knew
something was up," Ashley chimed in.
"So you remember the guy I was telling
you about, Reed, who I met at Starbucks a few weeks ago, one morning
before work?"
"The hot one that you almost spilt
your frappuccino on because you weren't expecting it to burn your
tongue?" Ashley blurted out. We all giggled.
"Yes, that's the one. Did I
mention to you guys that he's running for Senator of California in the
upcoming election and his mission in life is to one day become
President of the United States? I think that is so respectable
and charming." I said with a dreamy smile on my face. "Well,
anyway, you know how we've been dating for a few weeks now?
"Yes, get to the point," Danielle said
impatiently.
"Well, I think I'm going to marry him!"
"WHAT?!" They all exclaimed at once.
"How can you be so sure, it's been
what three weeks?" Cheyenne questioned me with a very concerned look on
her face.
"I'm in love. We have been
spending all our free time together since our first date. I just
know he is the one I am supposed to be with. Reed is the man I am
supposed to spend the rest of my life with."
Smiling sweetly, Cheyenne began to
mother me like she always does. "Well, honey, I am so happy that
you are so happy, but don't you think it is a little too soon to be
planning your wedding to a guy you just met?"
"I'm not planning my wedding,
Cheyenne. He hasn't asked yet."
"Then what the hell are you so excited
about?" Ashley, who is the queen of brutal honesty, asked with a
frown on her face.
"I just am. I know in my heart
that I have found the man I am supposed to marry. And the
exciting part is, I know he feels the same way. He told me three
nights ago that he loved me and that he had never felt this way about
anyone in his entire life."
"You guys didn't do the dirty did
you?" Cheyenne asked with a disgusted tone in her voice.
"No, we didn't. He's a
gentleman."
All of a sudden there was a knock at
the door. I got up to answer it and Reed was standing at the door
holding a dozen red roses.
"Reed!" I exclaimed extremely
surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I know you're having Girls
Night and I wanted to meet your three best friends."
So I introduced Reed to the girls and
they chatted for a little while. All of a sudden, Reed turned to
me with a loving gaze in his eye and proceeded to get down on his left
knee.
"Sadie, I wanted to ask you this in
front of your best friends because I didn't want them to think I was
crazy. I just wanted them to know how much I love you and that I
want to spend every minute of every day for the rest of my life with
you. Will you marry me?" As Reed asked me this monumental
question, he pulled out the most beautiful two and a half carat diamond
engagement ring.
"OMG, yes!" I couldn't believe
it and apparently neither could my friends. This was the start to
an amazing love between two crazy individuals, or so I thought.
The next day, I called my parents to
tell them the excited news, however, my parents weren't as thrilled as
I was. You see, I'm daddy's little girl and my dad was furious
that not only had he not been introduced to Reed, but Reed didn't ask
his permission before he proposed. I told my dad to meet Reed and
I at my favorite restaurant Zio's for dinner. That way, he and my
mother could meet Reed.
When we got to the restaurant and sat
down at the table with my mom and dad I thought everything was going
well because my mom was so super excited to meet Reed. I had
spent the night before describing every perfect detail of Reed to my
mother. But my dad had a different idea. He thought that
any guy I was going to marry had to be good at one thing at that was
golf. So my dad challenged Reed to a round of golf the next
day. Luckily, Reed was successful in beating my dad at golf and
so in return we were given his blessing to get married.
Authors Note: I decided to
retell the story of how Rama and Sita first met. Of course, the
names of the characters have been changed, but I hope that by making
the two main characters have the same first letter of their Ramayanan
counterparts. I took the story of how Rama and Sita met and gave
it a very modern twist. I hope to bring a little bit more
excitement and interest to this aspect of Rama and Sita's
relationship. In the actual story of Rama and Sita, Sita and Rama
saw each other in passing but couldn't seem to get the thoughts of one
another out of their minds. Rama passed a marriage test set up by
Sita's father and at first, Sita was horrified at the thought that she
would have to marry a man who won her in a contest. I obviously
changed that part of the story to make it so that Reed and Sadie were
in love but the only obstical was the marriage test put in place by
Sadie's father. I feel like just as Reed and Sadie didn't know
each other all that well, neither did Rama and Sita. I also feel
that a lot of the challenges that Rama and Sita face in the future has
to do with the fact that didn't know each other as well as they
would've liked before being married. However, Rama and Sita have
such a passionate love for one another that it is the envy of
many. There are many parallels between Rama and Reed in this
story, some of which include the fact that Rama and Reed both have
missions in life, and Sita and Sadie's fathers both had marriage tests
for Rama and Reed to pass.
