I grew up in a very small town and my community, growing up, was very
tight knit. Everyone knew and respected each other. When I
was little my
friends and I were known as the East Side Garber Gang because
where
there was one of us, the rest followed. We didn't do
anything gangish, of
course, except hang out. In a town as small as mine, when I
was
little it was easily to be confused to who I was related to and who were
just friends. My family had cookouts in our backyard all
the time and
to me those who came over the most often became part of my
family.
We were our own community inside the town, my family and my
family friend.
My whole family grew up in Garber, including my grandmother
and her sisters. It's kind of like a legacy left behind
where someone
in my family will always be in Garber. Though I don't plan
on going
back to my home after I graduate from OU, I have plenty of
siblings and
wouldn't be surprised if one of them continue that legacy
through their children's generation.
My other community inside my home town would be my classmates.
Out of the twenty I graduated with, thirteen of them had grown up
with me from kindergarden. We were all very close by the
time
graduation rolled around and couldn't believe we would be leaving each
other for the first time in thirteen years.
I am really glad I grew up in the community that I did because I feel
as if it has made me the person I am today and I am very proud of
all
that I have accomplished. Not only am I proud of the
accomplishments
I've made because of the way I grew up, but I am also proud to
say that the
Christian town I grew up in has helped me grow to be a better
person
now that I would have been if I hadn't had the community I
did.

This is an air picture of my town.
