Cinderella
So, what do you think? This clinic is a
pretty good idea, huh? Yeah, I've been doing pretty good. I get to help
people and I make money for it too. You know what? Today is your lucky
day. You see, most of these guys come and stay here a couple months.
Well, I've been in business for about, well, seven or eight years. Like
I told you, Cinderella's stepfamily were the first people through my
doors. Well, they are still here. They are doing alright, I guess. Oh,
yeah, you're lucky because you actually get to meet them. Talking to
folks helps them, I think. Ah, here we are. Room One. I suggest you
talk to the younger of the two stepsisters. She is in the best shape.
What really happened to Cinderella? Why
aren't you asking what really happened to us? My poor sister and I were
thrown in the dungeon. I hate Cinderella! I hate her!!
It all started when mother told us that
she was marrying another man and we had to move in with him and his
daughter. At first, we were really excited to get a stepsister! See, we
never like our mother. She always bossed us around like we were her
little dolls. No matter how hard we tried we were never good enough for
her. We thought by having another little girl to play with, it would
make the house happier. We planned on including our new stepsister in
our games, but mother commanded us not to be nice to her or she would
punish us. She told us how horrible our new stepsister was: ugly, rude,
and unworthy of playing with us ever. Mother told us she wasn't even a
girl, but a slave!
When we met Cinderella we really liked
her! She was beautiful and had a way of making everyone feel special.
Oh yeah, you would have loved her too. You couldn't see that she was as
evil and twisted as our mother said she was. All three of us girls
hated my mother. My sister and I were too afraid to disobey her, but we
were secret friends with Cinderella. We met under the cherry tree every
Thursday for a tea party. Whenever my mother was around we would call
her "Cinderwench" and make fun of her so she wouldn't be suspicious. We
didn't want her to find out that we really liked Cinderella. We would
help the poor girl with her chores so that we could spend all afternoon
playing. Pretty soon, we got tired of being secret friends and wanted
my mother out of the house forever. The three of us came up with a plan
to get back at that evil woman. At first, we thought we could make our
mother and Cinderella's father get a divorce! But, then we wouldn't all
be sisters anymore. We thought we could kill her, but we chickened out.
Then we thought of the perfect plan!
My sister and I were already planning on
attending the royal ball, but Cinderella wasn't allowed to go. We paid
an entire staff to come out and make Cinderella a dress and fix her
hair. All three of us looked our best. We thought surely the prince
would fall for one of us! Whoever married the prince would appoint the
other two princesses and marry them off in the castle. Then we would
throw our horrible mother into the dungeon! And the three of us would
live happily ever after as royalty! Well, as soon as we saw Cinderella
at the ball, we knew she was going to get the prince's attention. Our
staff had dressed her a hundred times better than they had dressed us.
Her eyes twinkled, her dress sparkled, her hair shone like a full moon.
What happened next? Oh, I'll tell you
what old Cinderella did to us! She married the prince and threw all of
us into the dungeon! Even though for all those years we helped her with
the chores and played with her. If it wasn't for us, she never would
have even gone to the ball and met the prince! Yes, my mother deserved
to be condemned, but not me and my sister! Cinderella is as wicked as
our mother! And did you see how much taxes went up after she became
queen? She should be in jail, not us!
Author's Note: I changed the story by making it from the younger
stepsisters' point of view. In the original version, Cinderella's
stepsisters and stepmother are all mean to her. The story is the same
in the fact that Cinderella was the prettiest of them all and looked
much better at the ball than either of her stepsisters. I decided to
leave out the glass slipper. For the point of this story, the reader is
already aware of the original, or most likely, Disney version of
Cinderella. Adding the part about the glass slipper would have taken
the focus off of the stepsister telling the story. In my version, the
stepsisters are friends with Cinderella and even help her get to the
ball. I also left out how Cinderella got ready for the ball. In Andrew
Lang's version mice are transformed into horses, a pumpkin into a
carriage and lizards into footmen. This is a well known part of the
original story, but in this version there is no magic. In the original
story, Cinderella's stepsisters are mean to her, but she forgives them
and still marries them off to royalty. In this story, Cinderella has a
bit of an evil streak herself.
