Who Will Save You?
by HwaRang Han
It was getting pretty late, and I still could not come to a conclusion
about what I wanted to do Sunday.
"Alright," the Angel said. "Before you make your final decision let me
tell you one last story."
"Sure," I said quietly.
"Just ignore her, kid; you know what you need to do now," the
Devil said.
"Thank you," the Angel said as she ignored the Devil. "Do you know the
story of the Ark of Noah?"
"It has been a while since I read the Bible, so I am really not sure,"
I replied.
"That is fine," the Angel said kindly. "The story is about a time when
everyone did as they pleased and forgot what God had done for
them. However, one man named Noah stayed faithful to God.
So God, in return, gave him a message to build a gigantic ark to save
his family and animals from a massive flood that God was going to
use to cleanse the world.
As Noah followed God's will and started building the ark, others who
had lost their ways made fun of him and thought Noah was a fool who was
wasting his precious time. When the ark was finally completed, the
destructive flood really did come just like God had said. The
flood killed everyone on earth except the ones inside Noah's ark."
"That is just brutal don't you think, kid? Killing everyone
without mercy," the Devil said.
"The point of the story is that God is all-powerful, and the only
reason everyone is alive now is simply because of his mercy," the Angel
explained. "Go to church and learn more about God. I am sure God
will save you one day, just as he saved Noah and his family."
This story really stuck me like a lightning. I really did not
want to
be like the ones that died in the flood.
"Do you think God will bring a flood once again?" I asked the Angel.
"You don't have to worry about that," the Angel explained. "He
made a promise to Noah and the earth that he will never again take
lives away like that. In fact, the rainbow is actually the sign
of that promise."
"Okay," I replied. "I have decided that I am going to
church tomorrow."
In that instant the Devil disappeared with a nasty expression on his
face, as did the Angel with a beautiful smile.
A
beeping noise started banging on my ears. It was my alarm
clock. I reached out my hands and turned it off. I wondered
to myself if everything that had happened last night was actually all a
dream. I prepared myself for church nonetheless and got in my
car. The weather was nothing less than perfect, very warm and
sunny. While I was driving, I noticed the road was a little wet;
it must have rained last night while I was asleep. As I finally
entered the open highway toward church, a beautiful rainbow appeared on
my windshield. It was not only nice to look at; it also brought a
warm feeling to my heart as I cruised onward.

Author's note:
For my final story I have decided to talk
about the great flood and Noah's Ark. For this part of the
story I decided to make the Angel as the storyteller, so that she may
wrap up my storybook as a happy ending. In the original story of
the Ark of Noah, God gives Noah very specific instructions about how
Noah should go about building his ark, but I thought all that details
were
not needed in my story so I left most of them out. Also in the
original story, there was a specific number of days for the rain and
for how long Noah stayed in his ark (it rained for 150 days), but I
also
left these details out. The Angel explained the story so that she
could enlighten the student about how powerful God is. She
explains in her story that idly ignoring God will bring people's
destruction, like the ones who died in the flood. The student
nicely sees the Angel's point and decides to go to church the following
day. When the Angel's story finally comes to an end, I made it
appear like the whole thing had been a dream.
