Love by Moonlight

Moonlit night

The moonlight is coating the entire forest. A small clearing is particularly illuminated on this enchanting night.....

"Hello there!  My name is Chandra. I am the moon, as you can see! I rest myself in the night sky every evening, coating the world with silver moonlight while lovers sleep. For those who are willing to listen to my wisdom, a fateful lesson will be their gift. Humans must move past their inability to conceive the inconceivable in order to hear my tales. It is true, I am the moon and I talk. Most people do not listen, but for some it is their fate. They have been chosen, by me, to hear my stories. My stories are full of lessons that can nullify the exhausting strains of relationships. My love stories range from true, devoted love to the pitfalls of ravenous desire.  I have presented three stories for these lovers. The first, a story about true love, is the story of Rama and Sita. The second story is one about devoted love. It is the story of Savitri and Satyavan. The third, and final, story is one about seduction.  It is the haunting tale of Ahalya seduced by Indra. I ride my chariot across the sky every night searching for lovers lost. This brings me to why I am here tonight.......

This fateful night has brought me four young lovers. These two couples have been through a lot in the last year. They have set out on a camping trip, hoping to renew their love or possibly just to connect with one another. Away from the business of everyday life, it is easier for people to see things they have never seen before. It is easier for them to open their eyes to what is really going on in life. Let’s just hope they can be open- minded enough to accept the fact that I will be telling them stories tonight……

The first couple I’d like to introuduce you to is Taylor and Anna. Their love is one of those stories of triumph, the kind that inspires people to love in the first place. They fell in love at first sight in college and have remained lovers since. They are best friends who live life together. They embody the ideal of finding the person you’re supposed to live your life with. They are the kind of couple who live their lives side by side, not competing with one another or anyone else. They simply live in love, which is beautiful.  They have had a wonderful love story, but not without their share of sadness. About five years after they were married, Taylor was stricken ill with cancer and given a year to live. They are four months through this year and Anna is fighting the fight alongside her beloved Taylor. They agreed to live life and to heal Taylor through love, which is the greatest healer of all….

The second couple is Loralee and Tristan. Their love story is not quite as triumphant at this point. They fell desperately in love with each other a few years back and until lately everything has been perfect. (I want to stress what I mean when I say perfect: love is NOT perfect. Love is real and if relished in its own simplicities can be a wonderful thing.) Loralee’s job called her away to a different city where she was lonely and lost sight of what really mattered in life. Giving into her loneliness, she was caught up in an affair with another man. She told Tristan about it and agreed to move back home. Tristan, being the humble, fun-spirited man he is, agreed to forgive her and work on their love. They have been trying, but sometimes it is just too hard. Sometimes Tristan gets angry and feels he cannot move past her infidelity.  They are here tonight to re-connect with one another and decide the fate of their relationship.

Taylor and Anna have been somewhat of a rock for Tristan and Loralee. They give as much advice as possible to them and are the ones who are responsible for this camping trip tonight.

As the couples settle in and set up camp, I begin to illuminate the campsite with silver, glowing moonlight. The kind of moonlight that makes humans feel HUMAN again. The kind that makes them stop and feel showered with love.

I begin by saying hello. At first the campers are startled, but then as always they are frozen in a trance of amazement they cannot escape…….
