Extra Credit I do believe in extra credit; however, due to abuses of this privilege by former students, my very generous extra credit system has undergone serious revisions. To prevent a student from trying to pass this class on extra credit alone, I regretfully must now limit the events to one per week. These events MUST be pre-approved by the instructor; students cannot simply attend any event of their choice and demand extra credit. Students MUST write a minimum two page report over the event to obtain the points. The Writing Center extra credit possibilities shall NOT count against the event limit. Extra credit points will be issued in the follow increments: 15 points per event, unless the student must pay an admission fee, then the points will be increased by 10 for a total of 25; Writing Center extra credit shall be 20 points per MACRO essay, 10 points per micro essay. Sports events are NOT eligible for extra credit. Other ways to accumulate extra credit points: Attend class. You never can tell when I just may throw something out there that might be worth extra credit. Points for these will vary. Watch the web page. I will occasionally post extra credit possibilities on the web page (sometimes unannounced). Points for these will vary. Extra credit points may be redeemed for the following: dismiss an unexcused tardy 20 points, dismiss an unexcused absence 60 points, replace a missing daily grade 10 points, apply to low grades—any amount; however, low grades due to an unexcused tardy or absence will stand. Extra credit will NOT be applied to such grades unless and until the tardy or absence is cleared. Extra credit will be issued by way of a monthly coupon. The coupon will be stamped with an expiration date. This expiration date is NOT negotiable. Redeem the coupon by the stamped date or lose the points. |
