The Ninth Circle of Hell

The darkness was suffocating. There was no light, which was normal, but there was also no Lucifer to guide the way. The air was stagnant and cold, as if to say that it too was alone. The ground underneath was rocky and uneven. Dust was kicked up with every breath taken. There was a grayness slowly approaching. Within the grayness walked three men. Charred wings scraped the ground, leaving behind a trail of blood and black feathers. It was obvious that these three beings were fallen angels.
"My name is Luciel. The two with me are Marcus and Kain. We are here to entertain you for a while." It was the fallen angel in front who spoke. The other two stood behind him with looks of vague indifference on their faces. All three of the fallen angels seemed dull and muted like Lucifer but to a greater degree. Luciel continued to speak. "Lucifer is busy preparing the way to your next, and last, stop. Getting to where you're going is generally quiet painful. However, Lucifer is working hard so you don't have to feel that pain." His eyes narrowed as he continued. "What makes you so special? Why do you get to go through Hell without experiencing the pain? Why do you get to leave?" He walked closer before suddenly stopping and looking over his shoulder. He looked back with displeasure. "Lucifer is ready for you. Just continue to move straight. Your destination is just ahead." Then the fallen angels were gone in a flurry of tainted feathers.
Steps began to echo as the ground began to change. It became smooth and glassy. The cold became bone-chilling. The darkness lightened to reveal pain. There frozen in an ocean of ice were sinners as far as the eye could see. Their heads and necks were all that could be seen of them. One could plainly see the agony frozen on their faces. Their screams were trapped in their throats unable to be heard. However, their eyes could still take in what was around them. They moved from side to side, pleading for help. As you moved on, you might have noticed how the heads began to be lower and lower. At the end of the ocean of ice the sinners were completely submerged. Their faces were placed flush against the ice. Then the ice began to turn into dirt and walls appeared to create an enclosure.
"Welcome to my humble abode." Lucifer stood in the middle of the enclosure. A bear skin rug lay under his feet. Torches hung from the walls. A dresser of mahogany was flush up against one of the walls with a mirror attached.  Up against the adjacent wall was a huge bed. The comforter was made of black velvet. Against the last wall three men hung in chains. Lucifer turned to the shackled men and slowly made his way towards them. "Meet my roommates. They're not much for conversation but they're great at charades." A soft chuckle escaped him as the men attempted to meld into the wall as he approached. "You might recognize their names actually. From right to left we have: Brutus, Cassius, and Judas." He flicked each of them on the head as he said their names. "They're more like pets, to be completely honest. They don't do much of anything except hang there. If they're real good I will take them for a walk. We always go through my lovely garden of frozen people. The heads of betrayers make great seats. Very comfy." He laughed heartily and roamed around the room. "You see that what everyone down here in the Ninth circle is: a betrayer. Even me- especially me. I betrayed the almighty Father after all." More laughter bounced off the walls as he threw back his head. Suddenly the laughter stopped and all was quiet except the pitiful moans of Lucifer's "pets." He stood and walked to the entrance of the enclosure. "Look at all of them. Frozen in fear and pain. It's exactly what they deserve." He grinned before running out onto the ice and sliding over the the heads underneath. "That never gets old. Would you like to give it a try before you wake up? Your time here is almost up. I bet you can't wait to get out of here. Not that I blame you. This place is kind of lame." He laughed once more and skipped back into his room. He thwacked his "pets" on the head. "Be good while Daddy takes the nice visitor home." He then turned towards the center of the room and held out his hand. A beam of black light shot out of it and hit the ground. It spread out and filled the whole room.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye." Lucifer floats in the darkness. "We are currently at the edge of your consciousness. As soon as I leave you'll awaken." His shoulders tremble slightly but no sound escapes him. "I hope you had a pleasant tour. I'll send you a survey so you can tell me how I did. I do hope to never see you again." Then he is gone and consciousness filters in through the darkness.

Author's Note:Well, this is it. The last story of our journey. It's been fun. Moving right along, I really liked how this story turned out. It wasn't as funny as I meant it to be but I feel that it's better this way. Most of the humor in that is in this story comes from Lucifer. He is very sarcastic. Another element that I ended up adding but hadn't originally planned on was the other fallen angels. They do actually appear in Dante's "the Inferno," just not here. They appear earlier on. I did make them angry at the visitor which was how they acted towards Dante. In this story we didn't actually hear a story from one of the sinners like in the other two. Instead Lucifer tells you what the sinners are there for. I did this because well, the sinners are kind of frozen. I guess I could have had Lucifer thaw one out but this just fit better.I also kept Judas, Brutus, and Cassius with Lucifer.  In the poem he was chewing on the three of them. I left that part out, but he's still there to personally torture them. I also didn't address why Lucifer wasn't a demon like in the poem. In the poem Lucifer was written as being a huge, furry demon. Truth is I just don't see Lucifer as a big, hairy demon. That is the only reason I changed it. Also, I added all the furniture to his room. I  felt that it gave it a more homey feel to it.
