My storybook project is a collection of classic fairy tales retold.  The sources that I will be using for my retold stories are Andrew Lang's Fairy Tale books, English Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs, and Household Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.  Andrew Lang wrote twelve different children fairy tale books.  He named each book after a color.  His fairy tale books contain such classics as "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Rumpelstiltzkin."  A lot of Andrew Lang fairy tales I have heard before, although some of the stories I have never heard before in my life.  Joseph Jacobs wrote The English Fairy Tale book.  This book includes such classics as "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Story of the Three Bears."  He also wrote other books such as Celtic Fairy Tales and Indian Fairy Tales.  Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm wrote Household Tales, which includes a version of the classic "Cinderella."

These classic fairy tales have been told the same way for years and years, and I felt that they needed a little twist to them.  This is why I chose this topic because I enjoy taking things that have been done one way for a lot of years and doing it a different way.  I think that this brings life to old classics.  In retelling these stories I believe that it will bring a new enjoyment for people to see their favorite stories with a new eye.  In retelling these stories I hope that I will improve my storytelling skills, and that my stories will be entertaining to those who read them.

The first story that I included in my story book is called, "Little Red Riding Hood Retold."  In this story the reader gets to hear how the wolf was the victim.  The second story is called, "Hello, My Name is Rumpelstilzkin."  This story is told by Rumpelstilzkin, himself.  The third story is called, "Dopey Decides to Talk."  In this story the reader actually gets to hear what it sounds like to hear Dopey talk.  The fourth story, "The Revenge of the Three Little Pigs," is one of my favorites.  This story tells the real plan that the pigs had for the sissy, old wolf.  The last story in my storybook is called, "What Happened to Goldilocks?"  This story is for anyone who wants to know what happened to Goldilocks after she ran away from the three bears' house.  If you want to skip all the stories and just see a picture of a really cute fairy, then you can go back to my storybook title page.  In all of these stories, I either retold the story or added to the ending.  The technique that I tried to use for each of the stories was to make them funny.  I wanted the reader to be entertained and laugh at the same time.

As the frametale for my storybook I will be telling about a secret library.  This is a secret library that is located behind one of the book shelves.  If a certain fairy tale book is pulled off the shelf, then the whole book shelf opens up into a secret library.  In this secret library there are fairy tales retold.  These versions of the fairy tale will amaze the reader by its different view point.  This secret library is be beautiful.  The book shelves, the floor, and all the tables are covered in gold.  The books are in mint condition, still having a new smell.

The story begins. . . .

The little boy was looking through all of the books in the library in search of his favorite fairy tale.  As he pulled down tons and tons of books, he never found the perfect one.  Just as he was about to give up he saw one last book on the top shelf.  He climbed the ladder to the top and pulled out the book.  To his surprise the whole book shelf opened up into another room.  The boy walked quickly into the other room.  This room was filled with gold.  There was gold tables, gold book shelves, and gold floors.  All the books were in mint condition, having a new smell to them.  The boy walked around in amazement, glancing at the titles of the books.  Although all of the books had really interesting titles, there was one that caught his attention.  This book was called, "Little Red Riding Hood Retold."

The story ends. . . .
The boy put the book back.  It was getting late and it was time for him to head home.  He hadn't found his favorite fairy tale because he couldn't choose from the five that he had heard in the secret library, but he didn't care because he had so much fun hearing these new stories.  He couldn't wait to bring his friends over to the secret library.
