New Movies on DVD

DVD movies Movies are a lot more entertaining these days because of all the extra features that are available on the DVD release. The DVD can cram so much more information than a stupid old VHS tape. Just look at all the great features on the new Dark Night DVD. The DVD is loaded with extra content. It has deleted scenes and it had extended scenes. Scenes that might be interesting, but might have slowed the pace of the movie down too much for its theatrical release, but make the movie more fleshed out for the home audience. The Dark Knight is a perfect example of why the extra content is so important to most movie watchers. When I see a movie that I have anticipated for a long time, been waiting for its release and am really excited about; I can’t get enough of it. It is not enough to just watch the movie. I want to go behind the scenes and see how the director and actors made the movie happen. I want to know the process. I want to know what got left out and what other directions that the director might have thought about taking the movie.

I want to see more and to hear what the director and some of the actors think about the scene that I am watching. As long as the commentary is thoughtful and informative, I don’t want them to just go through the motions because the DVD is coming out and they need content. That is why it is so great going back and buying the rereleases of older movies when the producers go through the trouble to add new and extra content. It makes watching these movies a whole new experience and it puts a different spin on them. It is also cool when they rerelease an old movie and the commentary from the director and actors is filtered through the lens of history. Sometimes they have had twenty or thirty years to reflect on what the movie meant to them and their careers. Sometimes if the movie is a classic, it has had an effect on many people’s lives and it is interesting to look at it from a historical perspective as well. I know for me personally, I feel ripped off if there is not a good amount of extra features on a DVD. I don’t want it filled up with garbage just so that there are a whole bunch of menus to go through, but even if the extras are bare minimum, but add to the feature they are worthwhile.
