*The Importance of Family*
Welcome, mermaid guests, to a fabulous Monday, LIVE from the Sea-Weed Circle Auditorium! Today we are
honored to interview a mermaid who just so happens to be a twin! She
will be featured LIVE in our studio and will share her story about how a
decision she made has changed the life of both twins forever.
So all my mermaids in the audience, please put your hands together and welcome our guest who has come all the way from Trinidad!

Hello, everyone! My name is Tilly. To start off my story, you have to
know that many years ago, my twin sister and I were actually
regular humans! My story of how I became a mermaid started with my strong love for the sea!
My
twin sister, Star, and I both shared a very strong love for the
sea. We would go to the sea every day and play almost all day long. The
ocean created a strong bond between us because we loved the sea more
than anything. However,
there was only one day out of the year when our parents told us that we
weren't allowed to go the beach, and that was on Easter.
Growing
up, we never exactly understood why we weren't allowed to go to
the ocean on Easter, but our parents told us that something strange and
bad would happen if we went swimming that day. So for many years each
Easter our family would hunt for Easter eggs and play all day long. Of
course we still had fun, but I was always curious about why we couldn't
go outside by the ocean on just that one day. And I always wondered
what would happen if we did.
As you can probably tell so far, I was definitely the most adventurous
one of the two of us. My love for the sea was so strong that it was the
only place I wanted to be. As
for Star, as time went on she became interested in boys, reading, and
other things besides the sea. My love for the sea, however, only got
stronger.
Another year came around and I couldn't take it anymore. Even though we
had been warned over and over again, I decided to ignore what our
parents told us, and I went out to the sea on Easter. My worried
sister, of course, followed me and watched me as I swam farther and
farther out to sea. It was at that moment my life would be changed
forever.

I quickly swam back to my sister who was shouting my name back on shore.
Star started swimming after me in the water and I swam up to her and
pulled on her hair. When she looked down at me, she gasped in
disbelief. My feet were gone and I had grown a tail! The sea that I had loved so dearly had turned me into a mermaid. I
was scared for my sister because I knew that her love for the sea was
definitely not as strong as mine, and I didn't want her to turn into a
mermaid too. But it was too late! She was already in the water.
However,
because we were twins, the sea was unable to recognize that there were
two of us in the water. My sister was in shock, and could barely say
anything. I quickly whispered to her that she needed to return home. So
my sister kissed me goodbye and returned to the shore.
"Wow! That's truly incredible! So
Tilly, you're telling me that you have not seen your twin sister in
over thirty years?" said Mermana Montana.
"Yes, that's right, but I do miss her and I think about her every day," said Tilly.
"Well, today is your day, Tilly, because we actually have your sister on Skype at this very moment," said Mermana Montana.
"Oh my goodness, you look amazing! You truly haven't aged since the day I became a mermaid!" said Tilly.
"Tilly! I
know, I like it at times but it reminds me every day that I lost you to
the sea! I just wish you would have listened when our parents told us
not to go swimming that day," said Star.
"I know, sis... but I love the sea, and you know that you will always have a special place in my heart.
Mermana Montana, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to see my sister again!"
"Well, Tilly, I love you and thank you, Mermana, for letting me get to see my sister," said Star.
"And
I would like the audience to know something that is very important,
even though I love being a mermaid now, absolutely nothing is more
important than family! And even though at times you may get frustrated
with things, you must remember to cherish the moments you have together
and listen to the ones you love. Because you never when it could be
your last time with them," said Tilly.

This has been a Mermana Montana
exclusive! I want to thank Tilly for joining us today, and a special
thanks to Skype for getting us connected. Be sure to join us tomorrow
when one of Guam's legendary mermaids joins us for her first on-air
interview!
I'm Mermana Montana... I hope you all have a wonderful day!
Author's note: When I first read this
story I thought it was just incredible! I mainly kept the same theme of
the original story almost the same! One of the major changes I
did make was finally giving Tilly's sister a name. I think that giving
her a strong name, Star, added a lot to the story and made it more
personable. Overall, I certainly gave the
story a modern twist! The story originally ended without the two
sisters ever really meeting again and getting to talk to one another.
So I thought it would be fun to give them a chance to talk again by
connecting via Skype! I also added TV host Mermana Montana interviewing
the mermaid and giving her life lesson of Tilly's story by telling the
audience the importance of having your family in your life and keeping
those who you love close to you!
