Mt. Olympus
Mount Olympus Museum

Introduction

"Welcome to the Mount Olympus Museum, located on the top of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece! My name is Cypris, and I will be guiding you through the lives of the gods here on Mount Olympus! There are so many things here that I almost do not even know where to start, but lucky for you guys I have been here for five years now and know right where to go! I don't mean to brag on myself, but I feel like you all are getting the best deal today because of all my experience! Now how many do we have in our group today?"

As all the guests looked around, the group added up to be about fifteen people. Everyone was a little quiet due to Cypris's overwhelming excitement about Mount Olympus! The looks on the faces of the guests were priceless to Cypris though. She loved the gods more than any of the guests could even know because she had a secret of her own. She was actually the daughter of the Titan goddess Dione, Aphrodite. She tells the guests of the museum her name is Cypris because this is one of her epithets used due to the fact she was born on the island of Cyprus. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, and procreation. She is a beautiful goddess who often placed a love for mortals in the hearts of other gods. This is why she was working in the museum now. She always wanted to see the interaction of mortals with the world of the gods and goddesses. Most of all, she wanted them to appreciate the work these gods and goddesses did for the people of earth.

"GREAT! We have fifteen people! I love having smaller groups! That way if anyone wants to know a little more about something in the museum we can stop and take our time! I hate rushing through all this great history! First off, I want to start off with a few well known facts about all the gods as a whole! We have a total of twelve Greek gods that are titled to be Olympian gods. These gods were in charge of every aspect of the human life. Examples of this are how Athena was the goddess of war, Demeter was the god of agriculture, and Apollo was the god of healing. They ruled the good, the bad, and the ugly of human lives here on earth. Now I know we won't get to find out about every aspect of every god here on Mount Olympus. I mean, if we did that we would be here for days, so I have broken our tour down to the three most exciting gods who ruled here! We will stop along the way to see the sights of other Olympian gods but today we will be focused on just three gods.

These three gods are members of the pantheon, the group of twelve Olympian gods and goddesses. First, we will learn about Zeus, the King of the gods. Then, we will focus on Hera, the Queen of the gods and the wife of Zeus. Finally, we will learn about Poseidon, the god of the sea, rivers, flood and drought, earthquakes, and horses. The other Olympian gods were Apollo, Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus, Hephaestus, and Hermes. Each of these gods had outstanding qualities, so along the way we will be learning a little about each of these gods, but our main focus of the tour will be Zeus, Hera, and Poseidon. Does anyone have any questions to start us off with?"

The guests stood silent, but the looks were not as overwhelming as before. The excitement of Cypris had started to grow on them. So with no questions and a more eager-looking group, Cypris headed down the grand hallway with the group following!
