After years of
suffering from emotional distress, the god Vishnu has
decided to attend therapy. He decides it is best to warn his new
therapist that he is not a typical patient.
Dr. Pasguci,
Before we begin our first session, I wanted to give you a little
background about myself. First, though, I would like to thank you for
taking the time to counsel me. You see, sir, I have a lot of issues I
would like you to help me work out, so we are in this one for the long
haul. As any god will tell you, we all have a special duty. However, I
have always taken a higher responsibility for the safety of the
earth and of it's people. It is for that reason that I have had so many
different avatars. You see, Doc, it is almost an unhealthy obsession
and I just can't trust any other god to do the job. Oh, wait, you
probably don't even know what I am talking about. An avatar is like an
incarnation of a god. Avatars allow us to go down and live on
earth in a human or animal form. In my case, I have had ten avatars
that have lived on earth. I am sure
you can imagine how much pressure that puts on me, Doc. I mean, it is
no
wonder that I have so many problems.
I guess it all
really started back in the Satya Yuga, which you
might know better as the
"Golden Age." Well, you know, during the
Satya
Yuga man was pretty much governed by the gods and lived with a
strong sense of purity and goodness. It was during this period that my
first avatar, Matsya, the fish, lived on earth. I'll go into more
detail
about that during our sessions.
I just want to
give you an overview for now, Doc. This way, maybe you can start
thinking about how to help me. You see, I have been so depressed
lately. I just don't know what to do anymore. Lakshmi,-that's my
wife-said I had to get this all figured out soon. I have been so
depressed
that it is really starting to affect our relationship. I love my wife
so much, Doc, so I really need your help, okay?
There's just a few more things I want to brief you on. I mentioned
earlier that I have had ten avatars. Well, they were all significant,
of course. However, there are three avatars that I really want to talk
you about; these are the ones that I feel have impacted me the most.
The first was, of course, Matsya, and then there was Rama
and finally Kalki. These are the ones that I feel have caused me the
most grief.
Since I told you
about Matsya, now I
need to tell you about Rama. Rama was actually my seventh avatar, so
you see I am skipping a lot of time here. Rama was born in the Treta
Yuga. We describe the Treta Yuga as the period when the righteousness
of man first decreased. Rama's whole purpose of life was to destroy the
evil demon Ravana, which of course he did. I feel like that life really
took a toll on me, though. Rama went through a lot down on earth.
That
brings us to Kalki, my tenth and final
avatar.
Kalki is the avatar that gives me the most grief. See, the thing is
that Kalki has not yet lived, but once he does it will signify the end
of the fourth yuga, the Kali Yuga. The Kali Yuga, and this is the
time we live in now, is the worst time in the whole history of the
world.
The troubling thing is that when the Kali Yuga ends, so will the world.
You can see how that's a lot to deal with.
Well, Doc, I
think that's all I need to tell you for now. I really hope you will be
able to
help me deal with all this stuff. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Vishnu
