The Historical Tour

Conclusion by Julie Looper

Well, hope you have enjoyed the tour throughout the ancient, middle ages, and early modern times. I really enjoyed making this web page with a theme of a tour because I love to go on vacation to different places. I am not always fully aware of the historical places and usually do not go to see them when I travel, but I picked this theme so that I would understand that everything has a history. In researching for the topic of the tour, not only did I realize how many amazing structures there was during the different periods, but I saw the history of each structure and its importance. Many of my structures had been burned down a multiple of times and the structures up now were not the structures that were originally made. The one thing I thougth was really neat was that one of the structures was rebuilt to make it look similar to the time it was originally made.

The most important thing I learned in researching the Great Pyramid of Giza was there was so much to the story than what is said by the structure. I have always known it to be an amazing structure but I did not realize the hard work that went into actually building the pyramid with the large stones and in the shape of a pyramid. I also did not realize the importance of building the pyramid until I read that the king and his people did it to have a better afterlife. I always heard about the afterlife, but I had never thought it was as extreme as it really was. The king had to accomplish many things in his life to become a god in the afterlife. I did not realize that was so important. I knew the king was the main person the pyramid was built for, but I did not understand the complexity of the importance of the pyramid for the people and the king.

I learned the importance of the little things while researching the Cathedral of Chartres. First, I did not realize that there was another cathedral in a similar spot called the Notre Dame Cathedral and at first I confused the two. Then, I was amazed at the number of times the cathedral burned down but the people were determined to have the stability in their town. I also did not realize the importance of the feeling of safety that the cathedral and Mary had on the people at this time. In addition to the structure, the outside figures on the walls showed the values and thinking of that time in relation to religion.

I learned many things when researching the Globe Theatre. First, I did not realize that the first theatre was built in a different place and taken apart to be rebuilt in a different place. That is amazing! Then, some years later that burned down and they rebuilt it again which is amazing. Later, I did not realize how strict the Puritans were at not having "entertainment" and eventually shut down the theatre. Fortunately, there was another theatre built to try to mimic the earlier one. That is also something that confused me was the new globe made in the 1900's compared to the original one with no pictures. I was really happy to complete the theme and I feel like I learned a lot about history and science while learning the history of the buildings and understanding their importance and their structure.
