The Tales and
Trials of Alice and Her
Crazy Wonderland
Lorina
Talks to Alice
"Alice! Where have you been?" Lorina was in the kitchen washing up
for
dinner when her little sister strolled in looking very mischievous. But
then again, Alice typically looked like she was up to no good.
Lorina asked Alice where she had been all afternoon and Alice simply
replied, "In Wonderland, only the strangest, yet coolest place on
earth."
"Wonderland??
What, is that a place you made up in that crazy little imagination of
yours?" Lorina knew that Alice had quite the imagination and was one to
elaborate on things, so she figured Alice was probably stretching the
truth a bit.
"Lorina, I
have been in Wonderland all afternoon," Alice said with irritation in
her voice. Alice liked to make up stories and joke around with
her sister, but this time she was serious! She really was in Wonderland
and she wanted her sister to believe her. So she began
explaining, each word coming out faster and faster as she got more
worked up about making her sister believe her. "I saw the White
Rabbit running frantically past me so I decided to follow him and I
ended up going down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland and I was just
curious to see what the rabbit was so late for, when I ended up getting
stuck in Wonderland because I got too big then I got too small then too
big then too small! I started to get scared so I started to cry and I
cried a lot and I started drowning in my tears and then...."
"Alice!
Slow down! You mean to tell me that your body changed sizes??? And you
drowned in a pool of your own tears? That can't be possible!" Lorina
was so confused. She didn't think Alice was making complete
sense, but something about the way Alice looked at her when she was
explaining made Lorina want to believe her.
"OK,
Alice. So obviously, you did not drown in your tears because you
are still alive. So what happened next??"
Alice began
to tell her about how she started to swim, because what else should you
do when you are in a pool of tears? While she was swimming she ran into
a bunch of animals, ended up swimming to shore, and then proceeded to
have a race, which everyone won! "Everyone won the race, Lorina! Can
you believe it? How can you have a race that everyone wins?? I thought
it was a bit strange, but I was excited that I too was a winner, so
hey! The more the merrier right?"
Lorina
thought to herself, how indeed could there be a race with everyone
winning? Hmm. Lorina thought this story was getting more interesting
with each detail Alice told her. At this point she had completely given
up on being rational and was completely entranced with Alice's story.
All she wanted to do was learn more about this Wonderland place.
So she said, "That is quite strange to have all winners, Alice! So,
what happened next?"
Alice went
on to explain how she ran into the White Rabbit again who told her to
go fetch his gloves and fan. "Lorina, I didn't really understand
why he was ordering me around, but I didn't really know what else to do
so I went to his house to look for his silly gloves and fan. The White
Rabbit really is quite an interesting character! I feel like he does
need to calm down a bit though. So stressed out and uptight all
the time!"
Lorina
replied, "Alice, I can't believe all this happened to you in one
afternoon! Do tell me more!!"
So Alice
proceeded to explain to her about the next few crazy encounters she
had, including the tea party. Alice knew Lorina LOVED tea
parties, so she knew she would love this part of the story. "So I ended
up being a guest at a tea party with The Mad Hatter, the March Hare,
and the Dormouse!" Alice exclaimed.
Lorina did
not know who any of those characters were but her eyes lit up when she
heard the words "tea party." She replied, "Oh my goodness! I wish I
could have gone to a tea party with them! That would have just been
lovely. Oh my, do you think they will be having another tea party
sometime soon? I would just love to attend!"
Alice had
only been to Wonderland once, but she knew anything was possible, so
she relied, "Lorina, why don't we just go to Wonderland and have a tea
party with everyone! All we need to do is talk to the White Rabbit, the
Mad Hatter and the Dormouse! Plus, anything that the Queen says goes,
and I am pretty close with the Queen so I will just talk to her!"
Lorina was
so excited to go to Wonderland and see firsthand how crazy and mixed
up this place was. She ran into her room to decide which party dress
she should put on to wear to her first tea party in Wonderland! As she
was looking through her closet, she paused a moment. Lorina
thought to herself that there is no way this crazy wonderland place
existed. It was too upside down and she couldn't really believe her
dopey little sister.
But then again, if it was real...she wanted be dressed for the occasion
so she grabbed her favorite dress and slipped it on.
Author's
Note: The story has been changed to focus on Alice and Lorina
discussing Wonderland. The events from Alice's encounters with
Wonderland have been modified and slimmed down to focus more on Alice
explaining to her sister her entire afternoon in Wonderland
highlighting on certain things. Lorina is very intrigued with
Wonderland and wants to know more about it so Alice is telling her
everything that happened. Alice did leave out some details of what she
saw when she was there that were in the original story. Also, my Alice
character emphasizes on certain events such as Alice's pool of tears as
well as the tea party. In the original story, Alice had encountered a
lot more characters that were not mentioned in this story. When
my Alice tells the story, she includes other
details to put more emphasis on certain characters,
such as expanding on the White Rabbit's personality. In the
version of the story that my Alice tells, she mentions that he seems a
bit uptight and could relax some.
Also, there is an added excitement for the tea party and there is talk
of a second tea party happening later in the storybook. Finally,
in my version of the story, Alice and the Queen have become good
friends and
all Alice has to do it talk to the queen about having a second tea
party. In Carroll's book, the Queen and Alice do not become friends.
The Queen puts Alice on trial at the end of the book.
