The
Tales and
Trials of Alice and Her
Crazy Wonderland

Lorina
Talks to the White Rabbit
Alice was walking slightly ahead of her sister, leading the way to the
rabbit hole. Lorina still couldn't believe she was really going to this
crazy place. Wonderland seemed like something out of a dream, but she
was really excited about the possibility of a tea party.
"Alice, how much farther is it?" Lorina was getting a little tired of
walking and her feet were starting to hurt from wearing her dress shoes.
"Lorina, quit whining. It's just at the bottom of this hill," Alice
said.
When they finally reached the entrance, Lorina was a bit confused. "You
mean to tell me that to get to Wonderland we must go down this small
rabbit hole?"
"Yep," was all Alice said as she smiled at her sister.
Lorina was expecting something a little more normal, but who was she
kidding, she knew the whole idea was crazy, so she just went with it.
"OK, let's go then. You first!"
Alice explained to her sister, "Lorina, it's quite fun falling. It's
not scary
at all. And don't worry, it doesn't hurt when you land. See you in
Wonderland!!" Alice said as she stepped into the hole.
Lorina took a deep breath, and before she could talk herself out of it,
she jumped in. She couldn't believe it, but Alice was right. It
was quite fun falling. She felt like she had been faling for hours.
"How
strange," she thought. "I wonder how long this fall will last." After
what
felt like forever she finally hit the ground softly.
Lorina adjusted her dress and fluffed her hair a little, then looked
around. It was very strange indeed. Everything that Alice had told her
about Wonderland was true. What an intriguing place!
"So, Lorina...what do you think? Isn't it marvelous yet so strange at
the same time? Oh, I just can't wait to show you everything! Come on,
let's go!" Alice said to her sister and they began walking down the
long hallway taking right and left turns. Alice led Lorina
straight
to the door that she knew would be unlocked. They went outside and
began walking to the White Rabbit's house.
"Alice, this is so crazy! I can't wait to talk to the White Rabbit and
see if he can help organize the tea party! Oh my, this is so fun!"
Lorina exclaimed.
When they reached the White Rabbit's house, he was sitting on his front
porch. Alice ran up to him to say hello and introduced her sister. They
reminisced about the last time Alice was in Wonderland and how he had
mistaken her for his housemaid. "Isn't it so funny that last time I was
here I got stuck in your house!?" Alice said to the Rabbit.
"Oh my, oh my, dear Alice, what an event that was!" the Rabbit replied.
Alice and the Rabbit proceeded to tell Lorina all about their
encounters, explaining to her that the Rabbit was going to be late for
the tea party because
he had lost his gloves. He had mistaken Alice for his maid and
sent her looking for the gloves when Alice grew too large and got stuck
in his house! Lorina listened to the whole bit about how the Rabbit and
his friends tried to get Alice out of the house and Alice ended up
kicking Bill the Lizard because Alice's foot was sticking up the
chimney. When Bill tried to come down the chimney into the house -
BANG - Alice kicked him by accident and sent him flying up out of the
chimney. "I am so terribly sorry for kicking Bill in the air
like that. I didn't mean to hurt him. It's just that I was so
flustered!"
Alice explained how she was so glad when she ate more of the cakes
and was able to shrink back down and get out of the house.
"Oh, what an event that was! If only I had known what a delight you
were
I wouldn't have caused such a fuss about you being in my house, dear
Alice," the Rabbit said. "So, what brings you two to Wonderland
today?"
Lorina explained how she would just love to attend a tea party and
asked if there was anything he could do to arrange another one.
"Oh yes, we do seem to have tea parties often. I suppose it wouldn't be
much trouble at all to have another. I believe you would need to
talk to
the Mad Hatter and the Dormouse to see about arranging one. And a
tea party isn't a tea party without the Queen herself. I do
suppose I could arrange to have the Queen there as well. Oh my, so much
to do! I must be going! What a tea party this will be!" the Rabbit said.
Lorina was so excited to hear the Rabbit say a tea party would be
possible. "Alice, shall we go speak to the Mad Hatter then?"
"Yes, I think that would be just splendid! Why don't you go talk to the
Mad Hatter and I will go with the White Rabbit to speak to the Queen. I
would just love to catch up with her!" Alice pointed her sister in the
direction of the Mad Hatter. "Third house on the left. Just tell him
Alice sent you," she
exclaimed as she ran off to catch up with the White Rabbit.
Lorina was too caught up in the idea of the tea party to even realize
that she had no idea where she was and no idea what the Mad Hatter even
looked like.
"I guess I must be on my way then!" Lorina said and she began walking
to find the Mad Hatter.
Author's Note: The story
has been changed to focus on Alice taking Lorina to Wonderland. I have
included a second trip to Wonderland in my version. Also, Lorina has
become a central character for my version. For this story, I focused on
Chapter 4 of Carroll's version of Alice's
Adventures in Wonderland. I also used information from Carroll's
Chapter 1 that helps explain how Alice got into Wonderland. My version
explains what happened the
last time Alice was in Wonderland, instead of making the events
currently happening, as in the original story. Also, it specifically
focuses on what happened when the White Rabbit mistook Alice for his
housemaid. In my version, many details were left out from the original
story to shorten it in length. The events were told to Lorina to
explain to her what happened when Alice was last in Wonderland. There
is also a focus on Alice and the White Rabbit reminiscing about their
last encounter. I included that Alice and the White Rabbit were
friends, which was not stated in Carroll's version. Also, my
story includes Lorina and Alice talking to the White Rabbit about
having another tea party. My version included that there are many
tea parties in Wonderland, which was not covered in the original story.
Lorina is very excited to possibly get to attend a tea party in
Wonderland and in my version she plans to talk to the Mad Hatter about
the event.
