Hello, my name is Celeste Martínez and I am a Master of Music student in Musicology and a graduate assistant at the University of Oklahoma. Welcome to my homepage.
About the author
I graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. I obtained a Master of Music in Music Education at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2009. I will be graduating in July 2011 with a Master of Music in Musicology with an emphasis in the ethnomusicology field at the University of Oklahoma. My current research focuses on Panamanian singer and songwriter Pedro Altamiranda and the paradox he represents within the Panamanian culture, identity, and Politics. My previous research in the Music Education field involved incorporating Performance Anxiety Management courses in the curriculum of the contemporary Music Educator.
Studies and competences
My graduate studies in Music Education include Performance Anxiety Management and its inclusion in the music educator’s curriculum as part of their coursework. In the field of ethnomusicology, my studies include the fusion of Native American music with pop music in Björk’s works and the issues of stereotypes, appropriation and authenticity that directly concern the preservation and exploitation of Native American music. My specialty is on Panamanian singer and songwriter Pedro Altamiranda and his role within the Panamanian culture, identity, and politics.
