You Win Some, You Lose Some.

Well, the regular season came to an end with the same gut-wrenching feeling as last year. Yes it's all fine and dandy that the Sooners are headed to Houston this weekend to fight for the Big XII Championship, but it leaves a bad taste in our collective mouth to see OSU come out on top. In the coming year expect the OUDL to make a push for the color orange to be added to the banned substances list at Oklahoma. On the plus side of things, the OUDL did escape Stagnant water without anyone getting smacked in the head with a goalpost. At least the OSU rent-a-cops were kind enough to lock the Pride in the stands during the post-game melee. During the game Mr. Britt decided to make the best of a worsening situation and practice his teaching abilities. Mr. Britt had the opportunity to engage in scholarly debate and exchange ideas with a colleague from OSU who also happened to be in the spirit/pep business. The subject? "Post-modern Ethics and Firearm Safety at Outdoor Athletic Events" Mr. Britt dazzled his counterpart with wit and rhetoric beyond his years and offered some helpful advice to the aspiring pep-icon. (btw Mr. Britt, the OUDL was ready to go over the wall with you if necessary)

Naturally after the game there was quite a bit of frustration to be worked out, and there is no better way for a drummer to do that than go out and beat some tubas. The annual OUDL/abuT football game took place last Sunday and the result was similar to last year. Both offenses looked weak and unorganized. The tubas pounded away with the power running game, but finally came up short on a third and long when they threw a 16 yard interception that was run back by Troy to put the OUDL up 7-0. After stopping the tubas on downs their next possession, Paul would throw a 40-plus yard pass to Popkess that would have set up the next score if not for a goal line fumble. The rest of the half would play to a stalemate as the OUDL and tubas traded turnovers. Quite a few adjustments were made at the half including changing into white jerseys (the black just wasn't working) and implementing an offense that didn't rely on the halfback pass. The second half would continue to be a comedy of errors with neither team hanging onto the ball very well. The OUDL defense did succeed in getting more pressure on the quarterback and racked up a few sacks in the third quarter (Taylor, Sutton, Popkess, Kyle, and practically the entire defensive line). A controversial fumble recovery by the Jamar of OUDL set up a 65 yard TD-run on a busted play by Paul, making the score 14-0 late in the game. Once up by 14, the OUDL offense relaxed as they drove the field one last time in a hurry-up quick-pass offense that set up a Popkess go-ahead TD. Final Score OUDL 21, abuTs 0.
