Siiiiiiiiingin' in the Rain...
9-18-02

As predicted the Sooners rolled over the UTEP miners with little effort. Both the Oklahoma offense and defense scored a touchdown apiece before thunderstorms forced a game delay. The fans piled into the tunnels of the newly re-named Gaylord Family/Memorial Stadium to wait out the weather. The OUDL seized the opportunity to ruin perfectly good sticks and drumheads, and played a mini-concert for the student section. Being properly beveraged up and in the OU rain-delayed game day spirit (wet T-shirts and all), the students cheered reps of The Stoops Stomp, Disturbed and some of the other stand grooves. The actual game itself was out of reach by half-time, and Hybl was pulled in the third quarter after an impressive game. The rest of the game became a contest to see which Freshmen would score the next touchdown. One more point could have been added to the 68-0 score, but the coaches decided not to kick the extra point of a last second touchdown. The official word is that it was a display of good sportsmanship, but we all know better.

It is common knowlege that the OUDL is well practiced in the arts of effervescent liquid consumption. What one might not suspect is that, when the right food is prepared, the OUDL will congregate in a feeding frenzy around a good bowl of salsa. This was the case at the Mexi-Fest party after the game. There was much grumbling when the 50 or so quesadillas dissapeared, and a virtual riot ensued when the salsa ran out. The self-dubbed winner of this Iron Chef Mexico extravaganza, Lil'Ryan, has already been hit up to fill more salsa orders. He says that money is fine, but he is also accepting phone numbers, ladies.

The OUDL has a well-deserved week off and we will most likely spend the weekend practicing the warm-ups and rudiments that make up the basis of good percussion. Doh...I mean, we are spending all day Saturday on Sandy's couch (or at least in her living room) watching football. Alums, be sure and catch us next Saturday out in front of Carpenter Hall where the OUDL will unleash Nine-and-Swing 2002.
