One Down; Thirteen to go.
9.2.02

The Sooners' first "road trip" was a successful outing that saw the team accomplish many of their off-season goals. Questions about a sputtering run-game were answered as the Sooners rushed for 378 yards and four touchdowns. The special teams play was highlighted by a punt returned for a touchdown by Antonio Perkins. And as always, the defense played havoc with the Golden Hurricane en route to pitching the shutout. However, all of the success of the evening was overshadowed by three red-zone turnovers by the offense. Hopefully, that was just a function of first-game foibles.

The 2002 OUDL was unveiled Friday as well. Marching Oklahoma at halftime must have been the spark that was needed to whip the fans into a frenzy and cheer the team past their slow start. It was nice to be playing in front of the fans again. A great big thanks should go out to all of the Sooner faithful who made the trip to Tulsa. We hope to see you all at the real home opener, when the Sooners take on Alabama. The series stands at 1-0-1, so Oklahoma is looking for its first win against the Crimson Tide.

This game should be closer than the Tulsa game but, if it were up to the fans, every game would be a shutout. Troy, the front ensemble instrucor for the OUDL, is an Alabama alum for whom this game should be extra exciting. This saturday quite a few questions should be answered in the national picture. Will OU's offense running game build on the success of the Tulsa game? Can the defense continue to play at such a high level? Will OU throw a touchdown? Will Alabama try to make something of a bowl-banned season? What does an elephant have to do with the Crimson Tide? I've been baffled by this one for years. I mean really....a pachyderm? Come on.

See you all Saturday.
