Storybook Project:

Constellations

It was much harder than I would have thought to pick a final theme for my storybook project. At first, I was stumped and felt like I could not come up with one fun idea and then as my search went on I became attached to several of my ideas and wasn't sure how to go back to just one. What a mess! Constellations was the final winner though. I think that it is fascinating to be able to look at the stars and see shapes, and then with those shapes in the sky to be able to associate a story is amazing. I am going to set up my storybook as a star-crossed lovers story. Two high school students have met and against all odds and everything in their society, they have begun to fall in love. They begin meeting at night and telling each other stories of constellations and what they mean to each other. I know it sounds kind of mushy, but I feel confident that it will appeal to the hopeless romantic that is within us all. A fun sort of frame tale, if you will. The first story that I want to be sure to include is the story of Andromeda, who is represented in the sky as a woman with her arms stretched out and she is chained at her wrists. There are so many exciting stories that involve the stars and the origins of constellations that I think it will be interesting to combine them in a way that more people our age can relate to. I am ready to learn about the constellations more myself and I am excited that I can teach others at the same time.

The story book is going to be called, Stargazing! I am excited to get started!
