The Movie Issues

Gender
In this film there is severe depiction of both women being merely damsels in distress that require rescuing at every twist and turn.  Where as the men are depicted as strong rarely compassionate brutes.  I think that this has a lot to do with the time.  When the original story was written men wanted to feel that they were the dominate of the species.  The church following the Crussades made women out to be the devil and that has only in recent decades become a thing of the past.

Race
In this film there is also a depiction of differerent aboriginal races as well as the French and British Europeans.  In Last of the Mohicans there is a sharp contrast in the depiction of the Huron, who side with the French, and the Mohican (Uncas and Chingackhook).  The French are seen as brutalistic controllers who are oppressing the British.  This is a gross misrepresentation because in fact the British were the ones who continuously encrouched on the New France territory.  This film makes the Hurons look as though they were a powerful tribe that when flexing their muscles could do whatever they want.  The true historical facts about the Hurons is that they were absorbed by the Five Tribe of the Iroquios Nations because they were weak and unable to defend themselves.
