"Okay kids, I have time for one more story, and then I must head off to see my wife Lakshmi. The last story I am going to tell you is a love story about me, as Krishna, and a girl named Radha. Now, do you all remember when I told you about how Mario has different players? Well, my wife Lakshmi also has different players, and Radha is one of the reincarnations of Lakshmi! The boys had their story, and now this story is for you girls!" replied Vishnu.

The girls in the classroom were so excited to hear a love story. A real love story. Not like the ones that they would watch on television, but something that happened in real life!

“The story starts off when I, as Krishna, was a young boy. When I was younger, I was mischievous and played several pranks on my family and friends. My favorite people to play pranks on were all the elderly people in the village! Sometimes when the old ladies were not looking, I would steal some butter from their pots! I loved butter! I actually still love it to this day! I tell Lakshmi to put a big scoop of butter in everything that I eat! But anyways, back to the story: Radha was a girl whom I saw while I was wandering around looking for someone else to play a prank on. She was with a whole bunch of other girls, and was surrounded by cows. She was known as a gopi, or a cow-herding girl. When I laid my eyes on her, I knew it was love at first sight. We both couldn’t take our eyes off of each other. I knew I had to talk to her, so I went up to her and said hi. She shyly said hi back to me. Ever since that day that I first met her, we started to hang out more and more. Radha and I had so much in common. She was the only person that I felt that I could open up to. We became best friends, and would do everything and anything together! But then, something bad happened…”

All the girls in the class gasped in shock. One girl to Vishnu’s left side interrupted and asked a question.

“Mr. Vishnu, everything was perfect! What could possibly have happened to Radha and Krishna?! I don’t think I am going to like this very much! Did they end up getting married and having lots of children together?”

“Well, let me tell you what happened. My parents forced me to get married to another girl. I did not want to disobey my family so I did as I was told. But what my parents did not know was that I was still secretly seeing Radha. Radha and I would even wear each other’s colors. My skin was a bluish color so Radha would wear blue saris and blue sapphires around her neck. Radha’s skin was a beautiful golden-yellow color, so I would wear a golden dhoti for her. Radha also wore payals (anklets) on her ankles, so I wore them around mine too! Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention this to you guys, but I also was known to be the best flute player in the whole village.

Every time I would play the flute, the girls in the village would run to me to hear me play. Radha would also run to me. All of the girls of the village, including the girl I had to marry, were jealous of Radha. They did not like that she spent so much time with me, and that I would privately play my flute for her sometimes. Then, I decided to tell my parents that I was in love with Radha, and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her! My parents agreed to have us married. The next day our wedding took place, and Radha moved in with my family. Radha and I had two children, and we lived happily ever after….”

In happiness, the girls all smiled. They were all glad that Krishna finally got married to Radha.

Then, Ms. Bhagwana made an announcement.

“That was a lovely ending to the stories that you told today, Vishnu. Thank you so much for coming to share them with us. Kids, let’s all thank Vishnu for coming in today.”

The kids all replied in unison. “Thank you, Mr. Vishnu!!”

“You are all very welcome. I can come back to tell you more stories if you would like. But of, course, it is getting late now so maybe I will come back sometime next week. Would you all like that?”

“YES!!!! Please come back!” exclaimed the children.

Ms. Bhagwana shook Vishnu’s hand, and then he left the classroom.

Author’s Note: There were several versions of the Radha Krishna story that I read. I wanted to tell this story in the simplest way that kids, especially the girls, would most enjoy. There were some things that I made up myself that I knew from my own experience about Krishna. I knew that he used to be a trouble-maker when he was small, and that he loved butter. He would often climb up just to get some butter out of the pots that women hung from their homes. I used one website that told a very detailed version of how Radha and Krishna met, and how much they hung out. The part that I was not sure was true or not, was when Radha and Krishna got married. The version I read said that Krishna did get married to another girl, and that he was sort of having an affair. Since Vishnu was telling this story to a bunch of little kids, I thought it would be the best thing to just have Krishna and Radha get married. Many of the details, such as the pair wearing each other’s colors, I got from a website. The link to the website is included below.
