Guardian
Angels: Ever This Night Be at My Side
Have you ever prayed to your guardian angel? Do
you believe in
guardian angels? Have you read the inspirational stories of guardian
angels in the Bible? I have. The stories of angels found in
the Bible provide security and inspiration to those of us who need to
believe in something higher than ourselves and this world. It is
their stories of protection and guidance that you will experience today
as you read my storybook.
First, I would like to add to your knowledge of angels. Angels
take many forms, often a human form, and that human form can vary,
depending on their mission. Many are equipped with weapons or other
objects used to accomplish the task given to them by God. In
the Bible, angels are referred to in unison with their mission, such
as "the angel which has redeemed," "the angel sent to Daniel," or "the
angel that destroyed." Only a few angels have ever been
distinguished
by a personal name, although you probably are familiar with some of
those names: Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel.
Angels have many different kinds of missions in the Bible: some
announce births or
deaths, some lead a person or entire population to safety, some protect
people from their enemies or other dangers. Angels usually
accomplish their tasks in miraculous ways, which justify God's power
and reign
over Earth. No ones knows if each individual has his or her own
guardian angel, but many believe that the number of angels is
infinite. People have found value and meaning in the numerous
stories about angels for thousands of years.

My storybook tells the story of four guardian angels sent to protect
people from harm. Because I believe the angels' stories have a
meaning for us in the
modern world, I have connected the Biblical stories about the
angels to stories set right here in the modern world. I began each
story with someone in the present day who is struggling with a personal
issue. After a long day of dealing with their problem,
they are comforted by a dream of the guardian angel's story from the
Bible. Each person wakes with a refreshed, inspired attitude and
knows how to overcome their struggle. My hope is that you will be
able to personally relate to at least one of the stories and use the
lessons from that story in your own life.
Out of the literally hundreds of stories about angels in the Bible, I
have chosen four that I think are the most miraculous and
inspiring. The first story, from the Book of Daniel, is about a
man named Daniel who defies the king's demand to worship only the king
and
his gods, and who is then punished by being thrown into a den of lions.
The second story, also from the Book of Daniel, is about three men who
again defy the king's command to bow to a statue he created. They
continue to pray to God and are thrown into a fiery furnace.
Daniel and the three men are miraculously saved from their brutal
deaths by their guardian angels. My third
story is from the Acts of Apostles, and it is about an angel sent by
God to rescue Peter from jail. In
my last story, God sends his angel to lead Moses and the Israelites
from Egypt into safety, defeating the enemies who stood in their
way. Each angel uses a
miracle to accomplish its mission, while observers are left in awe of
God.
But now, let us return to our time, the year 2008, and meet Chloe...
