Sunshine

Darkness…

She pulls her favorite blanket over her head,

Seeking the sweet repose of its familiar warmth.

Pinholes of light seep through worn but faithful fabric.

Gossamer sheers languish on the windowsill.

Pale moonlight illuminates their span.

Shimmering liquid grace stirred by a gentle breeze.

The hushed sigh of rain cleanses the earth as the velvet void of slumber envelopes her,

Giving her spirit license to roam the innermost reaches of its cosmos.

I rise to greet her,

Gingerly I approach.

Gratefully I behold the curve of her gingham gown.

My heart beats in time with her breath.

A finger caresses her cheek, another the nape of her neck.

Carefully I work to rouse her.

A stir and then a smile, her world opens slowly to behold my glowing countenance.

She rubs sleepy eyes; delicate limbs tremble with vigor as she stretches the night away.

I whisper a silent good morning as I give her a loving look.

She returns my greeting with a blink, a toss of her hair and that sweet girlish giggle.

My joy fills the room as I reveal more of myself, unselfishly sharing the life within me.

She reclines back into the softness of her bed, basking in the glow of my love.

Her face, lineless and pure, shines like virgin snow, transforming my night into day.

I live for these moments, our special time together.

In the wee hours of the morning while world is still at bay.

I adore her with an undying passion, always seeking the right moment to say hello.

I love her as I love you, children of my design.

Your richness of skin and boldness of form were born in my womb.

I am the fire in your bones, I am the light behind your eyes.

For you see, I am the sun, but you, my beloved ones, you are my sunshine.
