Thank you for visiting my website and please allow me to introduce you to my Storybook Project for the Fall, 2003, Semester of Mythology and Folklore 3043.

I suppose you might want to know how it is I decided to do a website about pirates. Well, I initially examined every aspect of my life in order to discover something that I am both truly passionate about and that I could relate directly to this class. So, it was during the sixth viewing of one of this summer's latest blockbuster hits, "Pirates of the Caribbean," that it hit me: I am absolutely enthralled with pirate legends! So, here I am, 100% gung ho about my final decision for this project.

Throughout this project I have been given the opportunity to learn so much about the history of pirates, not just as we see them in Disney, but as actual figures of history who devoted their lives to the glory and thrill of life at sea.

I started this project unsure of the exact way my stories would develop.  In my opinion this only added to the desired sense of adventure I was trying to maintain throughout the project.  My creations, therefore, are the results of my weekly treasure hunts for a wonderful pirate whose adventures I thought were worthy enough to tell.

Finding sources on the Internet is difficult if one is depending on credibility.  My stories, in order to preserve authenticity, have been compared to several book sources I found relating to pirates.  This helped me to convey the most accurate portrayal of the pirate legends I chose to discuss.

I think everyone has a sense of adventure and that is why it will be easy to appreciate the stories I have written for this project.  Some might argue that pirates were nothing but a bunch of scalawags without any ambition other than treasure seeking.  My stories are designed to prove this attitude wrong.  The pirates I have told about include some that were deeply religious, some that rarely killed, and even some that were women!  Like most of the things we have learned in this class, my project will hopefully allow you to open up your mind to things you may not have associated with piracy while also indulging the stereotypical images that the world of piracy has created.

In the pages that follow, you will learn of a bold young pirate, named Silvertooth. He is the man I have chosen to provide a voice for what I want to tell. He, in turn, will tell you everything he knows about his greatest passion: the history of the men that gave piracy its name. He will tell us about famous pirate legends as well as some not-so-famous pirates, including women buccaneers! So, shiver me timbers and hoist the sails, because you are about to set off on a journey beyond your wildest imagination
