Government Aid for College

Three Easy Steps to Recieving Financial Aid for College!
  1. First you have to chose which colleges you want to attend and APPLY! You can not apply for government aid if you do not know where you are planning on going.

  2. Second you need to go to the free application for federal student aid (aka FAFSA) website and fill out a FAFSA form. For Fall students one can usually apply starting in June and for Spring students, application begins in January.

  3. Finally after you have recieved an email saying that your fafsa has been processed, wait about two weeks and call the school you are applying to. You are then eligible to apply for student loans regardless if you qualify for financial aid.
A few questions you are going to want to ask the financial aid office:
  1. What paper work do I need to apply for subsidized and unsubsidized loans?
(Subsidized loans are loans that you do not pay back until you graduate from college where as unsubsidized is where you have the option of paying the interest on the loans while attending school)

  2. Is there any kind of fee waiver that I can apply for? (This usually only pertains to residents of the state in which the school is located)

  3. Is there any kind of aid for single parents?

  4. Is there any other aid that I may be eligible for that I have not asked about?
