Big Bertha the speculum turned and quickly jumped up onto the computer in the room. She began typing away and eventually beckoned for Caesar to come and take a look at the screen.

"Read this guy's medical file and you will see what I mean," Big Bertha explained.

Caesar began glancing through the computer....

Name: Michael Janaka
Diagnosis: Schizophrenia

"Well this guy has a psychological problem. What does that have to do with me? I work in Obstetrics remember!" proclaimed Caesar.

"It has a lot to do with your department. I was there when this guy showed up at the hospital. Let me tell you what this guy did," Big Bertha replied.

"So, this guy Janaka shows up at the hospital carrying an unknown child in his arms. He looked really calm, but when I glanced at him I sensed that there was something strange about him. When asked for what his purpose was, he stated that he had come to fill out the child's birth certificate. Janaka was then referred over to the Obstetrics and Gynecological division of the Hospital. Are you happy that we are are talking about your department now?"

"Okay, okay, I did not mean to be rude," Caesar replied.

"Anyways, when he arrived there, he was given the appropriate forms to be filled out by the department's head nurse. When he returned the forms back, the head nurse had a puzzled look on her face. In place of the mother's name, Janaka had simply written down "Mother - Earth." Janaka was requested to repeat aloud who the mother of the child was. When he again stated that it was the Earth, he was asked to explain how the child was born. He responded by stating that while he was walking, the ground below him began to shake, split open, and revealed to him the baby girl that he was now holding in his hands. This startled the head nurse, who called for doctors and security to be rushed to the scene. On their arrival they immediately took custody of the child and placed Janaka in a room for further questioning. This is when the story really starts to get interesting. While he is being placed in the room, Janaka goes from being calm and collected to practically losing his mind. He started to yell at  the head nurse and told her, "I am King of Mithila. How dare you try to question me? I will have all of you arrested and killed for this." I mean this guy actually starts thinking that he is king of some land. He then goes on to demand that his daughter be returned to him. So the authorities again ask for proof that this is his daughter. Instead of offering a DNA test or some other kind of paternity test, he tells them that they can ask "Mother Earth" herself. He then proceeds to run outside and starts praying to the ground and muttering a bunch of gibberish. He then started to have a conversation with the ground and how he needs it to tell everyone that it is the baby's mother. After about fifteen minutes, the entire act gets old and security takes the guy into custody. When the psych doctors come to examine him, they instantly realize that they have seen him before. This guy has been roaming around hospitals trying to steal baby girls for months. Every single time he goes around claiming that he found the child in a pile of dirt and goes on about how she will be the most beautiful princess of Mithila. Janaka was admitted straight to the psych ward, and after some searching, the baby girl was returned to the correct parents."

"Wow, so this guy steals a child and then tried to pass the kid off as his own? He had some nerve!" Caesar exclaimed.

"That's exactly what I was trying to tell you. You cannot just believe every person who walks through these doors. If that nurse didn't have the foresight to question him further, this guy would be out in the real world with that poor baby in his possession," Big Bertha replied.

"Yeah, you are right. Wow, you sure do ha---." BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP. Dr. Aryan was interrupted by his pager. "Oh crap! I totally forgot that I have to go and see this patient! I am getting nervous again!"

"Calm down, kid. Listen, I've told you what not to do and I've told you about some of the craziest things that can happen here. Just go in there, be confident, and I am sure you will do just fine. Besides, if you need any help, you know where to find me," Big Bertha replied.

"You are right. Thanks for all your help!" Dr. Aryan yelled as he ran down the hall to see his first patient.

Baby Sita discovered in field
Baby Sita discovered in a field. Web Source. The Birth of Sita

Authors Note: I chose this story because I felt that it was an interesting birth story to write about. Most stories have some sort of interaction between the children being born and the respective parents (whether gods, animals, etc). However, in Sita's birth story, King Janaka essentially just found her lying in a field and took her in as his own. There never seemed to be any interaction between himself and the earth. Because of this, I felt that the story would a good one to use because in reality Janaka never really had proof that Sita was his own. He was probably never questioned because of his stature as King. If Janaka was a common man then I am sure his fate would have been similar to the Janaka that I have written about. I did not really try to change the primary details of Sita's birth story regarding how she was born from the earth. I simply questioned the reality behind the birth story and attributed it Janaka having some psychological issues. The aspects that I changed were changing the setting to present day and also having our baby (Sita) returned to her real parents. In my next story, I am going to write about Satyavati and her fish smell that just does not seem to go away.
