Good afternoon, class! As most of you know I am Bob, Tommy's dad. Today I am going to tell you a story about one of Sinbad's greatest adventures.

This was Sinbad's first voyage in years. He found a ship that was set to sail to Baghdad.

"Where is Baghdad?"  ask Sarah.                                                                       Ship
"Baghdad is in Iraq."
"That is where my daddy is in war," said Jack.
"Ok, class, back to the story."

Sinbad got on the ship and sailed to many different islands on his way to Baghdad making trades. He traded fruit for spices, spices for fur, and fur for jewels. Sinbad had all he could possibly need at the time. The ship had one more island to stop at. This island was the best of all. It had big beautiful trees full of fruit. It also had beautiful streams of fresh water. Sinbad and his crew walked around for hours collecting fruit and water. All of the walking made Sinbad very tired, so he decided to lie down for a few minutes and take a nap. Not long after Sinbad fell asleep, a coconut fell and knocked him on the head. He jumped up and looked around. He was all alone. He ran to the cliff where the ship had been docked and it was gone. As he looked around the horizon, he could see the ship sailing off.

They had forgotten about him.

Sinbad gathered his belongings and decided to search for help. He walked through caves, over hills and across rivers. While climbing to the top of the highest hill on the island, Sinbad found a big egg. This egg was as big as a car.

"As big as a little car?" asked Jamie.                                                                  sinbad eagle

"Or as big as a big car?" asked Leslie.
It was as big as a big car. Sinbad had heard many stories as a child about a big bird called a Roc. As he was looking around the egg, the sky suddenly became dark. Sinbad looked overhead and saw the bird flying in to sit on the egg. The bird sat on the egg with Sinbad under its wing. Sinbad looked at the enormous feet and had an idea. He was going to tie himself to the bird's feet and hope that when it flew off it would carry him off the island. The next morning when Sinbad opened his eyes all he could see was the ocean under him. His plan had worked. Sinbad flew with the bird all the way to the next island. When they were approaching the island, Sinbad could not believe his eyes. His ship docked close by. He was so excited that he cut the rope and fell to the water. He did not realize he was so high in the air and did a belly buster. It knocked the air right out of him.

"I did a belly buster one time said Tommy. It hurt"

I remember that, Tommy. Back to the story. It is almost over.

Sinbad made such a big splash that his crew came running over and rescued him from the water. They were all happy to see Sinbad and could not believe his story. Soon after they set sail for home.

Well, class, that is all for this week, I hope to see you all next week.

Authors note: I changed the story from Sinbad's point of view to Tommy's dad telling the story. I really like the different troubles that Sinbad gets into. I kept a lot of the information the same as the original story. I used the same setting and the big bird. I really like that Sinbad thinks to tie himself to the feet and fly away. I added Sinbad getting woken up by a coconut falling and hitting him on the head. I thought it would be funny. I also added more details about Sinbad searching for a way off the island. I changed the ending of the story completely to fit it into the assignment. In the original ending the bird lands on an island and Sinbad cuts himself loose. Sinbad then finds himself in more trouble, being trapped in a valley full of giant snakes. I did not use this because it will make for a good part in my next story. I also added the part with Sinbad reuniting with his sailing crew at the end. I think that adding this will make for an easy start to my next story. There are so many good details in each story it is hard to pick which ones to use.
