Serafina

Rapunzel

Dear Diary,

I have been so bored in the tower alone by myself I have decided to write down everything in a diary. Well, I guess I should introduce myself and tell you a little about me. Mi chiamo Serafina. I am an only child, at least so far as I know, and I only have a mother; I did not know my father. My mother comes and visits me every day in my tower that I call my home. I'm sure you are wondering why I call a tower my home. Well, my mother decided that she wanted me all to herself so she locked me up in a tower with no entrance or exit, and comes and visits me every day so that I will not get lonely. But how I do long for a companion! Someone who I can be friends with, or someone I can fall in love with. I do hope I will find that one day. That is all for today.

Dear Diary,

You will never guess what happened today. I thought that I heard my mother's voice to let her up into the tower and so I let  the person up with my hair, but it was not my mother at all. It was a handsome prince. He said that he had been cursed by a witch to find the one named Serafina and that she would be the only girl that he could marry. Well, he has found me so I do believe that my wishes will come true! Oh, but wait, I think I hear my mother calling.

Dear Diary,

That was a close one. While the Prince was in my tower, my mother called for me to let her up. I had to act fast, so I told him to hide in the armoire and that I would try to distract her. My mother and I had dinner and then we finished with a glass of wine. But it would not be just one glass of wine that I would give my mother, it would be many. After many glasses she became very intoxicated and I knew that this was the time to ask her. I told my mother that I was very happy here, but if it was possible, I wanted to know how to escape from the tower. She told me that I would have to enchant everything in the room, including the dresser, the chairs, nightstand, and everything else. We would tell them that when my mother called for me to let her up, they would say " Yes, of course ,mother." Every time that she would say this, another piece of furniture would respond. If she was to find out that I had tricked her, she would chase after me. If this happened then I would have to throw magical balls of yarn at her to put obstacles in her path. I will soon have to try this.

Dear Diary,

It worked! After my mother left the next day, the Prince came out of hiding and we began to enchant everything in the room. The furniture knew what to do, and our plan was beginning to take place. We snuck out of the tower and begin to run as far away as possible. I hope that this will be the end of my loneliness.

Dear Diary,

I am afraid that mother has found out that I have escaped from the tower and that I enchanted the furniture in it. She has been chasing the Prince and me for many days now and we have tried to get rid of her. I threw an enchanted ball of yarn at her and it formed mountains, which she had to climb over. But she did, and she was gaining momentum on us quickly. I soon threw the other ball of yarn and then suddenly there appeared a plain covered with knives and razors. Mother came full force through them, cutting herself badly but she was still coming after us. I threw another ball of yarn and this formed a huge river between us. Hopefully this will stop her.

Dear Diary,

We ran all night, and the whole next day. I was getting so tired, but then we saw a glimpse of my mother. The river did not stop mother. She swam right through it. Although I can tell that she is growing ill from all of this and she will hopefully tire soon. I threw the last ball of yarn at her and a fountain of serpents descended upon her. This was the last that my poor mother could handle and she was gone forever. I was sad to see my mother gone, but I was so excited to have found my Prince.

Dear Diary,

The Prince and I made it to the kingdom a few days ago and the festivities for the wedding are just about to begin. I am so happy that I have found him. But there is one thing that I told him. I will NEVER live in a tower again!

Author's Note
In this story I actually left out quite a bit. This story began with a witch putting a curse on the prince and saying that he would not be married unless he found the one named Serafina. The original story tells about the journey that the Prince took to find the tower and to discover the girl. Since I am only writing about Italian Princesses I felt that it was necessary to leave this information out, and to just concentrate more on the Princess than on the Prince. Also, in the original story the Prince had another curse upon him so that he was supposed to forget about his Princess when he was kissed. It went into detail about how the Prince came to remember her, but that would have made the story too long and drawn-out, so I decided to leave it out. I really enjoyed how this story resembles our modern-day story about Rapunzel. I am still continuing to write my stories in the diary format to make everything flow together.
