The Geochemistry Group at the University of Oklahoma was established in the early 1980s and initially focused on petroleum related research. However for the past decade research has been divided between petroleum related projects and environmental forensic projects.

Much of the work in the later has been directed towards developing the applying stable isotopes to a variety of environmental problems concerned with both source determination and also evaluating whether or not natural attenuation is taking place at a particular site.

The group consists of a number of graduate students working on their M.S. and Ph. D. degrees along with a number of post docs and technical personnel.

Our analytical facilities are among the best nationally and internationally. We have numerous gas chromatographs, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometers and two gas chromatograph-isotope ratio mass spectrometers plus all the necessary extraction and fractionation equipment needed for the most complex geochemical problems.

We work closely with the major oil companies, many major environmental companies, EPA, Department of the Navy, and numerous smaller companies on a wide variety of projects. In addition we have developed collaborative projects with many companies and national oil companies from overseas. These include companies from SE Asia; China; Russia; The Middle East; Europe; and S. America.

Further details can be obtained by contacting us directly by email pphilp@ou.edu or looking at the web site for the School of Geology and Geophysics for information concerning admission into our graduate program.
