Sequanna

NOTE: Sequanna's name can also
be spelled "Sequana."
Alanna
was very excited to know that her figurine really did come to
life. It
wasn't just a foolish dream! It was real! Alanna heard footsteps
coming so she quickly jumped into bed and pretended she was
asleep. She could not wait to get back up and play with the
figurines. But she knew if she was not quiet, she would get into
trouble because it was past her bed time. Several minutes passed
by. Finally! She could play with the figurines. But
which one should she play with? Alanna looked at all of the
beautifully painted figurines, still finding it hard to believe that
she could make them come to life with a turn of a key. After
giving it much thought, she decided to make her Sequanna figurine come
to life. Alanna hoped the jewelry box would work on this figurine
like it had the others. She picked up Sequanna, placed her into
the box, then turned the key. She waited a moment. Yes! She
heard movement. She opened the box to find Sequanna alive and
ready to tell her story.
My name is
Sequanna. I am
the goddess of the
River Seine. The Seine is my favorite river because it is so
popular and so easy to navigate. The river was also named after
me. In Latin, the river Seine is called "Sequana." What a
beautiful name for a river!
People often come to visit me in the river. Water has always been
a source of life for the Celts. They like the water because it is
cleansing. I love it that people like to come visit so
often. They bring me many offerings, which always makes me
happy. I especially enjoy it when they bring me oil. The
scented oils smell so nice. Peppermint is my favorite. I
keep all of my offerings in a large pot that has my name inscribed on
it in beautiful calligraphy. The Celts also pray to me because I
am a healer of illnesses, especially when it comes to eye
troubles.
I generally wear a long, beautiful ivory gown. While I love the
river, I also love the wind and the way it feels. One of my
favorite things to do is ride on my boat. I love to stretch my
arms out wide and feel the wind rush through my
fingers and blow my gown.
My boat is beautiful and symbolizes the river, which is my
favorite place to be. The prow of the boat is shaped like the
head of a duck. It's glorious! Ducks are my favorite animal
because of their inner beauty. Ducks are magnificent
animals and are not given enough appreciation.
I accurately
followed this story. However, the story was a little dry so I did
make a couple of additions.
I do not know if Sequanna's gown
was really ivory! That just happened to be what she is wearing in
the picture, so I went with it.
I honestly have no idea if any offering is given to Sequanna more often
than another offering. I thought she needed a favorite though,
and
scented oil sounded nice.
Are ducks really Sequanna's favorite
animal? I have no idea! Once again, made up. But, her
ship's prow is really said
to have had a duck head.
It was a little difficult to find research about
Sequanna. There was not a whole lot to work with, which surprised
me. But, I recently learned that many stories were never written
down and were eventually lost. It was fun to be able to make up
what I did not
know.
I included this story in my Storybook because Sequanna was a
major
Celtic goddess. As I mentioned earlier, water played a large
part in the lives of the Celts. Because of the Celts' need for
water, Sequanna was a
popular goddess.
I think Sequanna is supposed to be one of the more well-known
goddesses.
Because of this, I felt like I definitely needed to include her in my
Storybook. I did not know anything about her before I wrote this
story.
This story contributes to my overall topic because it is the
third and final (I think!) story on Celtic goddesses. I hope
readers enjoyed this story. It is another lesser known
story that I hope readers enjoyed.
This story was told in the same style that the other stories in
my Storybook will be told.

This
is a really pretty
picture of the Seine River, painted by Claude Monet. I
thought it was really cool to find an artistic version of the river
where
Sequanna supposedly lived. This picture seems really
perfect
since Celtic stories are so much like fairy tales.
