Daniel Spooner

My name is Daniel Spooner and I am a Ph.D. candidate studying the ecology of freshwater mussel communities and their co-occurring benthic macroinvertebrate fauna.  I grew up in Ontario, Canada fascinated with water and the critters that inhabit it.  Since moving to Oklahoma, I have become interested in the mechanisms of community assembly  and their functional significance to ecosystem functioning. I am also interested in how shifts in environmental context (i.e. flow  and thermal regime) influence the functional role of communities, an important area of study given predicted shifts in climate and species decline.
