The world is askew, or "Even better than Danny Tanner."
Back in August, if you would've told me that right now, on March 28th, 2005, that my TV rankings are as follows, I would've called you crazy:
1. Desperate Housewives
2. Lost
3. 24
4. Alias
Yup, that's correct, Desperate Housewives is right there at the top of the TV shows that I am enjoying the most at the moment. This was not my ranking for most of January and February, where it would've been 24, Alias, Lost, DH. The last few weeks of 24 and Alias just haven't been as strong as they were at the beginning of the semester, I think. I've thought about it, and I believe I know why I'm enjoying Desperate Housewives more.
- The stories have always been interesting.
- Every episode is chock full of exposition on at least two-three different season-long continuing plotlines.
- Every episode has a certain good episodic quality that can be enjoyed without knowing everything that has happened in the past episodes.
- The events that unfold are more or less believeable. What I mean by this is that you don't have to suspend too much disbelief in order to believe that the events that are happening could really happen. Now, since Lost, 24, and Alias are shows that are obviously sort of hyper-real anyway, you might think that I don't care too much about beliveablity. I do, though. I at least want some internal believeablity, meaning that if something is true once on 24, then it's always true on 24. If Jack will cut off some bad guy's head to show it to some other bad guys so they'll believe he's a bad guy, then I want Jack to be willing to hacksaw off any bad guy's head if necessary. 24 and Alias have both been suffering from a lack of good internal believeability lately. Not necessarily a terribly bad thing, but on top of some other little bothersome things, it's more noticible.
- Desperate Housewives seems to me that it knows where it's going. 24 and Alias have both seemed to be a little short on over-reaching continuity this season. Maybe it's just the midseason blues (it almost certainly is), but I'll be glad when they stop treading water and thrust us into the rush at the end of the season.
- I don't know, Desperate Housewives just roxors my soxors.
Anyway, I still love 24 and Alias to the moon, and will not be giving up my viewership of them this season. I am anticipating what will happen on 24 with this pilot guy that looks like he's going to be going after Air Force One and on Alias with this stuff with Vaughn's dad. And also, Jack Bristow is definately the most awesome TV dad character ever. Even better than Danny Tanner.
