I.       Argument:          A reason or matter under dispute or

contention

 

          Persuasion:        Using words or ideas to convince

 

          Reason:              The basis or motive for an action

III.             Arguable Assertion = Thesis Statement that has two or more    arguable sides to it.

IV.           Reasoned Argument:      A persuasive strategy where

          convincing support proves your

          point is the most logical

conclusion.

             Plausible Reasons:            Convincing support (examples,

authoritative details, statistics, etc) which directly speaks for a side of an argument

 

 

V.      Structure of a Persuasive Argument: 

·       presents a controversial issue

·       asserts a clear position on the issue (the thesis)

·       argues a position by presenting plausible reasons and support

·       anticipates readers’ objections and arguments
