A Fiery Romance

Don't pick up that magazine! I guarantee I can
beat any story in those crazy magazine and tabloids! Just try me!
I have one last story to tell you.
Believe me, this is better than anything you will find in that issue of
Cosmo.
Think back to the last story I told you when I was abducted by
Ravana. As
you know, Rama rescued me, but my journey did not end there. My
life
became more complicated than Brad and Angelina's!
I finally made it home with Rama, but he did not believe I had stayed
pure
during my captivity with Ravana. I was deeply hurt that he was
questioning my devotion and morality. I was not ready to give
Rama up,
though. I would have done anything to win him back.
I know, I know. You are thinking: "You would not actually do anything,
Sita!"
But
you are wrong! Just wait and see...
Rama knew the people of Ayodhya were questioning my purity, and he did
not like
the terrible gossip that was haunting us. I knew all the talk was
really
getting to him, so I was willing to prove my chastity.
To prove my fidelity to Rama and the people of Ayodhya, I had to walk
through a ring
of thick and smoldering fire. If I had cheated, I would be
engulfed in
the flames. If I had stayed true to Rama, I would remain
unhurt.
Obviously, I could not wear hairspray to this test. My hair definitely
looked like a mess!
That did not matter to me, though. I just wanted to be with Rama,
hairspray or no hairspray.
I was confident (yes, even without the hairspray!) as I walked through
the flames. I still remember the loud
gasps of the crowd when I stepped into that sparkling fire. To
this day, I can even feel the hard thumping of my heavy heart. To
everyone's
surprise, I stepped out untouched! I was not surprised. I
knew I would be fine. I would never even think about being
untrue! Especially not with Ravana! Ewwwwww!
Well, I had finally proved myself to Rama
and the people of Ayodhya. I had stayed true and devoted to Rama,
and now
I could put all rumors to rest. Rama was so pleased at the
confirmation! He gave me the biggest hug I had ever had! It
was a great feeling!
After I proved myself, I told Rama he needed to take me on a nice
trip. I
told him I wanted to go to a beach! I had to show off the tan I got
while
walking through that hot fire! Could you blame me? I was
glowing!
Now, wasn't that better than those stories in Cosmo?
Everything did not exactly end happily ever after, but we will leave off here for now.
If you want to hear more, you will
have to treat me to a manicure!
Author's Note:
I tried to stay consistent
with each story by setting a fun and light tone at a beauty shop. I
also kept Sita's character very light-hearted as she told each
story. In their original versions, these stories are actually
very dramatic and are not happy at all. While I changed the tone
and the setting of the story line, I tried to keep the actual plot very
close to the original version. The one major change obvious in my
story is that the god Agni actually kept Sita safe as she walked
through the fire. I left that out in my version because it did
not suit my retelling very well. Additionally, in the actual
story of Rama and
Sita, Sita's stay with Ravana actually haunts Rama for a long
time. It gets so bad that he actually has her leave, even after
she proves herself by walking through the fire. I left that
out for this story because I wanted it to end on a happier note!
I also stayed true to a more modern theme to keep it more consistent
with my other stories. For this particular story, I compared
Sita's story to a dramatic tale you might find in Cosmopolitan
Magazine. If there had been an ancient version of Cosmopolitan, I
think Sita would actually be on the cover, and have a featured
story! I hope you enjoyed my modern and chic re-telling of Rama
and Sita's story.
